Brett Favre has been traded to the JETS!! Da Bears won't have to face Brett Favre or have him helming their team. Damn I wanted to see him stay a Packer for the most selfish of reasons.
Its a bittersweet goodbye to Brett Favre in Green Bay. I actually wanted him to stay. The guy has thrown at least 2 interceptions per outing against the Bears since '05. The only time he did not was in the last game of the 2006 season when the Bears were wrapping up a 13-3 campaign en route to the Bowl and had nothing to play for.
Brett's been quite a bit overrated for some time now. You ever see that still good looking middle age woman who hasn't quite figured out she don't have her 21 year old shape no more but still wears teeny-bopper clothes? That's Favre. He's forgotten he can't do the things he did when he was younger. He's always trying to make those plays that were common place back in his hey days in the mid to late 90's. Even then he was a bit reckless gunslinger.
He had a good season last year because the whole team improved. I watched many times Jennings and Driver would take 5 and 10 yard slants to the house because of individual skill. They're great receivers who did not get their proper accolades. With that said Favre still was probably the 3rd best QB in the NFC lat season behind Romo and Brees. The debate could be made that he was the second best since Brees started slow last season.
Favre can play you out of the big game too. For example look at his numbers facing the Bears the last 3 seasons. I think he actually gets caught up remembering all the highlights he's had against us. (Remember the 99 yard touchdown strike in '95. Yea I shudder too.) Favre has been gassing on his own fumes and the Pack payed the price. They've lost 5 of 6 to the Bears. The Pack lost to the Bears twice (again) last season and Favre was the main culprit. Our offense was as usual poor to decent. What changed the game. Hester? Nope. In fact it was some drive killing int's by Favre.
Did you see the Dallas game. He was looking for old glory in the anticpated "Student vs. Teacher" game between him and Romo. He made Dallas secondary look like New England's!! He went 5-14 with two picks!!! He was plain awful!!!! He will throw you out of big games, (anyone remember the 6 int. Rams playoff game? It was his awful int in Conf. final that help propel the Giants)
My point is Brett Favre hasn't been this godsend that people have made him into. With the explicit complicity of our adoring media and blockhead, errr Cheesehead fan base he's become unrealistic and out out of touch.
Now, the reason I didn't want him with DA Bears....He's to damn Selfish!!! If Favre truly had this itch to play and was as close to the Superbowl as he was last season with a YOUNG team that on paper should be one of the best in the NFC and surely the best of the NFC North, why quit? That's right the hunger wasn't there. If for a minute he was truly committed to coming back and giving it one last shot to win a title the Packers Organization would have backed him. They would have given him extra time off if neccessary to help ease the stress of another season.
That's because Brett was burnt out. When it came time for the cameras to be flashing and football talk started up he wanted to see himself in the show again. Its hard giving up the limelight. He wanted it back so he had to come. So he starts a war within the organization itself to make himself top dog. Incredible. Then when he doesn't get his way, he goes to trying to trade himself to his Arch-rivals the BEARS or Vikings!!! Are U kidding me. That's treason talk there!!!! That's like going from Duke to UNC, Cowboys to Redskins, Any AFC WEST team to the Raiders when you were a star.
Even worse had we accept him as a qb (If the Packers were willing too) you think any of the Bears guys would truly accept him after watching him behave the way he did with their most hated rivals? Think again. When things go bad he just throw you under the bus saying, "Well I know how to win." Hey as Bears fans we do too. We went to A Superbowl a lot more recently then he's been there. Underestimate how bad energy can turn off a team, ask the Giants about Tiki Barber.
So yes I'm glad we passed on Favre as our Qb. I just miss we can't kick the same over rated tushie that he wants everybody else to kiss.
