I had to let two or three days settle in for the effect of Chicago's opening day victory over Indy to settle in.
Now that they're up I can say that its going to be a pleasant surprise of a season.
Nothing feels better than to open up someone else's building with a shiny new loss!!!
What feel better is to see that we may have a very good running back in the making with Matt Forte, a good tight ends in Greg Olsen and Desmond Clarke and more maturation in Kyle Orton.
Last year from week I throughout the season I saw nothing but trouble on the horizon. Cedric "Bust"sen couldn't hit a hole or find his way through one. Everytime Grossman dropped back with a little bit of pressure he looked like a scared teenage girl in a horror movie. The O-line couldn't keep a VIP's in line at a club. We just weren't good.
This year I saw a O-line that are good run blockers opening sizeable holes for Forte. They were also very willing to be physical. Forte has good bursts through holes and extremely shify and quick feet. He also had several nice cutbacks. I must thank the Austin police for arresting "Bust"son twice.
Orton withstood a very good Indy pass rush and delivered several rifled balls right at receivers. The Bears made good use of their play action too because of the threat of the run.
The D was the way I remember the D in its dominant 2005-06 run. True Payton was a bit off his game and who knows if Harrison ever recaptures his form but we handled their defensive line and stopped their running game.
Hester got a lot of plays on offense and even caught a ball. To have a young core on offense of Forte, Orton, Olsen, and Hester is a good starting point. The line should improve. After seeing no chance of a Bears resurgence I feel that they can go at least .500 this year which is a major improvement.
Its scary to think but the Bears could have a very respectable offense by years end and with an addition of a true #1 wide receiver a actual good offense.
