The Chicago White Sox are 40-41 and 3 1/2 games out of first place in the AL Central. That is pretty good for a team
that has walked the mediocre line all season. If not for the outstanding play of slugger Paul Konerko, hitting over .316
with 21 homers and 62 rbi's, the Sox would be in worse shape. The Sox are also surviving free-agent Adam Dunn's miserable year. He leads the league in SO's with over 100. He is hitting .189. It is painful to see him approach the plate. The White Sox are hoping Dunn finds his groove before his season is an unmitigated disaster.
Someone should have the good sense to send him down to AAA to get his groove back. It's not a demotion, it's rehab.
I don't know if there is a clause in Dunn's contract that prevents that, but management has to be thining about that as an option. Chicago has found a way to hang in because Cleveland, off to a torrid start in the early part of the season, has cooled off. No team can play .775 baseball for the whole season. The Sox are always where they've been, in the race, but not in the race. In order for them to make a statement, they need to get timely hitting, and fine pitching. Today they got 6 innings out of Edwn Jackson. The Sox rallied for 4 runs in the 7th. Alexei Ramirez and Juan Pierre hit key shots to boost Chisox. Ramrez hit a 2 run blast. Pierre hit a 2 run triple to break the tie.
The Sox are on the radar. If they start winning games, they start making some noise and the blips get bigger.
