Gut Check Time for ChiSox

Ozzie Guillen's White Sox play a critical 3 game series with Detroit starting tonight that could shakeup the makeup of the AL Central.  The ChiSox are a few wins from really being in the pennant race.  They need to win two out of 3, or ideally, sweep Detroit, to get right in the mix as the schedule heads to August.

It is a question if the White Sox can play to its potential.  And, the talent is there.   Alexei Rodriguez at SS is a good emerging player with pop in his bat.  Paul Konerko is having a banner season with great power numbers.  Carlos Quinton is a streaky hitter, and if he is hot, watch out.  The Sox have been getting good at-bats from Gordon Beckham, the 3rd baseman lately.  And, lead-off man Juan Pierre, is getting on base, and driving in runs.  Pierre has batted over .350 in recent games.

Can the Sox combine the good hitting plus a value starting pitching performance?  One of these startings, Floyd, Humber, Danks, or Peavy need to throw 7 strong innings.  And the bullpen needs to close out the game.  It's about players making plays, and it's that time of the year when if you are in the position to do something about it, you rise up and meet the challenge.
