The Chicago White Sox looked bad last week after losing four straight to the NY Yankees at home. They went to six games under .500 and were 6 1/2 games behind Division leader Detroit. But a funny thing happened next. The Sox went on the road and just won a season high five straight games to make things interesting again.
Tonight the ChiSox are tied with the Orioles in the 8th inning after scoring 3 runs in the top of the 7th to tie up the game, 4-4. OF Juan Pierre's two out two run single was the big hit. The Sox have found a way to get back in the race: win games. I don't know what is in store for Chicago. They are a frustrating team to follow. They seems to have a lot of talent, but haven't clicked on all cylinders, yet. If they do, they just might be in a pennant race. They looked impressive in a 7-0 win over Cleveland recently. Jake Peavy threw eight strong innings, and the weak offense came out of a prolonged slump and banged out 4 home runs. And, Paul Konerko, who has 26 this season, didn't hit one.
Chicago has to hit the ball to be in it. Pitching wins championships, but hitting gets you there. The Sox are on the outside, about twenty feet away, looking in.
