The Chicago Bears lost to the Green Bay Packers 27-17 at home today. The offense sputtered. The rushing game was virtually non-existant. The Bears gained a paltry 13 years on 11 carries. Where is Rick Caseras when you need him? He was a vintage fullback who could have dragged two players with him. The Bears don't have that kind of player. The Bears don't have a competant offensive line which can protect Jay Cutler or block the run.
Brian Urlacher intercepted an Aaron Rodgers pass on the Bears 45 with just under 10 minutes to play. It was a 10 pomt game, and the Bears had the fans, and the moment. It was their time to climb back in it and pull out a thrillng win against their arch-rivals. The Bears then made stupid penalities which moved them back. At one point it was 1st and 15, then 1st and 25. Then they needed 33 yard to get to a first down. The Bears were so far back, it felt like they were in Evanston.
This team, they way it looks now, looks like an experiment gone awry. The fans booed and let the Bears know they were upset. When the Bears are bad, they are so bad. They had a hard time snapping the ball to have a chance for a play. This coming against a team which won the Super Bowl last season. The score could have been 47-17. But the defense kept the Bears in the game. The defense was on the field for what seemed the entire game. I felt bad for Lance Briggs who gives it his all on every play. Same thing with Urlacher. Maybe the Bears can convert Briggs to fullback. He would move the ball.
The Bears simply aren't a good enough team. Devin Hester getting that penalty for messing with a Packer defender in front of the Ref when the Bears need positive yardage. Not good.
Cutler didn't get injured today, that was the good news. Julius Peppers and crew showed up today. The offense didn't and unless you can score points in the NFL, you might as well be playing against Penn State. Right now, the Nittany Lions look better than Chicago does.
