Honestly, you had to see this game to believe it. The Bears radio announcer sounded like a relative had died, when announcing this one. You have to laugh, at the stupidity of the Bears schemes, and the execution of plays in the final closing minutes of the 4th quarter and in OT, to let The Tebow mysitque grow. I thought the Bears would win this game, but when they had Hanie hand off for 8 consecutive plays in their last two possessions, I knew this team was in trouble.
Of course, Denver scored a Td late, to make it close, 10-7. They tried an on-sides kick that The Bears recovered. So, you think just run out the clock with 2:00 to play. No, Marion Barber ran out of bounds and stopped the clock on a 2nd down run. The Bears couldn't convert on 3rd down and then punted to Denver. It's hard to imagine why Barber would run out of bounds. That is play one learns in pee-wee football. When that happened, I knew the Bears were in serious trouble.
The Bears had a chance to win it in OT. Were diriving to set up for FG when Marion Barber lost the ball, and Denver recovered. The Broncos had the ball, and it was Tebow-time. I thought the Bears would find a way to lose it and they did.
You give a first-round pick in Tebow, a guy who has won the Heisman Trophy, a shot, and having the stadium practically levitate...and the announcers looking for adjectives to describe this action, and it was bad news for a Bears fan. Of course, Tebow made the right throws, and the defense gave up stupid plays that they were making for most of the game. When Ken Albert announced that Denver has not been shut out of a game with about 4 minutes left, it seemed hard to believe that they would tie or win the game. But they did, and great credit to them, and The Bears handed them an early X-mas gift. A BIG X-mas gift.
The thing is how could you play so well, and shut out this team. How could you waste a great punt returnn by Hester to set up the TD and a great field goal kick by Gould, 57 yards, and lose this game? It is hard to explain. The team played well for 58 minutes, and then forgot to play. Players will say in whisper,"We didn't finish it." You got that right. I am not saying Tebow is the greatest Qb who ever lived, but he's hot...keeps composing on the field, and has gritty instincts. And, has a great desire to compete. That carried the day, when the Bears melted down.
I liked the Bears to make the playoffs but this defeat showed they are not a playoff team. Denver is, and they showed it. Players make plays, and the Bears players simply forgot to make plays.
