Yes, it is a fantasy but we can all dream a little can't we? Brett Favre is getting that urge to suit up and play football. Why? Because he has something to prove. Because he feels better than last January. Because he is a football player and it is training camp time and time to get ready to play. His football clock is ticking...let's see if the alarm goes off and if the Packers drop him. If so, He's gonna land somewhere with some team. A team that needs a proven player. A Hall of Famer. One of the best modern QB's of all time. Up there with the legends.
Can a Bears' fan let by-gones be by-gones? After about 30 seconds, you betcha! Having him play for Chicago would insure that the Bears will be a contender for the Division and will likely win at least 9 games. !0 would get you into the playoffs. What about the rivalry between the Bears and the Packers...how can he wear the colors of the Bears? If they find a way to pay him, he will play. Heck he has beaten the Bears through the years, let him suit up and beat up on Green Bay! This the the 21st century. It's goodbye sweeheart and "hello baby."
Let Favre complete some 3rd and longs to a Bears receiver. Let Favre take control of the offense and lead it down the field. Let the Bears offensive line have something to block for -- mainly to keep their new meal-ticket from getting oxyginated.
It's the drive to the playoffs and the Bears have to beat the Packers to get in. The dreaded Pack. Favre is the story of the NFL, could get comeback player of the Year...its 24-20 Green Bay with 6 min left in the 4th quarter. The Bears convert third downs and move the ball into Green Bay territory. Fans are roaring. Now, there are 4 min. left. and it's first down Chi Bears on GB's 24 yard line. A quick opener and the Bears are down to the 17 with 3:25 left. Plenty of time for Favre.
He drops back to pass and a Green Bay defender has his hands on the ball and drops it. People are shaking their heads...Favre, the gunslinger that he is, loads up again. One of those bullets will hit. He fires and it does, a Bears TD! Extra point is good, 27-24. Bears! Now the defense plays like Monsters of the Midway, the run is stuffed. The pressure on the QB is great. A pass is thrown and it's intercepted! The drive is killed and Chicago gets into the playoffs. Favre is a hero in a new town. He is the toast of the town.
It reads like a Hollywood ending. It's only July. It's a fantasy. A Bears fan can hope, right?
