About 10,500 fans showed up a day or two ago to see Brett Favre say "Hut, Hut", and afterwards Jet fans were thrilled. Life should be so easy. The Jets have an out of shape Favre in camp, who is being honest when he says, "It's going to be difficult" for him to get up to speed football-wise. First he is out of shape. Second, he has to learn a new terminology and playbook. Third, he has to learn names of teammates and coaches.
And, he has to find his way to Jets' training camp on Long Island. Favre will face off against former Jet QB Chad Pennington who was just picked up by the Dolphins in the Jets' first game in Miami. Should be a tough game.
There's no question there are huge expectations for the Jets' this season. After all, how many times do you get a 3 time league MVP league to QB your team? It's downright rare.
At least the Chicago Bears won't have to face Favre who has dominated them in recent years. He's in the AFC now and will play Buffalo, New England, and the Dolphins. Everyone is picking the Jets as a sure-fire wild card pick. I'm not that sure. He can make a big difference. But football is a team game. You have to have guys who can block on the line, guys who can catch the ball, and a good ground game. You have to play tough on defense. The Jets didn't raise any fires of passion before they acquired Favre, so how is one man going to play all these positions? He can't. The Jets' don't have pro-Bowl names on their team. Except Brett Favre.
But Favre is offering hope. He is a proven winner and right now, that is all the Jets' fan want. They want someone who has won and can win. Favre doesn't have time on his side. Maybe he can do what Y.A. Title did for the Giants at the end of his career. Title took the Giants to the post-season and played in Championship games. If Brett Favre can, the Jets will be very interesting to watch.
