The Chicago Bears scored a Touchdown with just 11 seconds left in the 4th quarter to take a 20-19 lead in a tough game down in Atlanta. One would think that for all purposes, this game was over and the Bears stole a victory.
Well, the Bears were'nt done yet. These Bears are a charitable bunch. If the game isn't over, "We'll give you a chance to win it." "Come on, take a shot." Well, the upstart Falcons did just that.
With just 11 seconds to play, QB Matt Ryan drove the team to field goal position, and their kicker made it good on the last play, Bears lose! This is a typical Bears loss. They bumble and stumble around for 3 quarters, wake up, play some football, make a game out of it, take a late lead in the game, and then give it away before the gun sounds.
It's not the name of the opposing players...it's the way the Bears play the game. They play with such a small margin for error, so when one play gets out of whack, letting a receiver get out of bounds so Atlanta can set up for a field-goal attempt, and that play works out, the Bears are done. This is not the sign off a good team. Good teams know how to manage the clock and finish the game. Good teams don't let a QB make perfect plays to drive 30 or 40 yards. Don't the Bears have a pass rush? Don't they have linebackers who can anticipate and clog up passing lanes?
It seems everyone forgot their assignments. I saw the highlights briefly and felt sick to my stomach. Like a masochist, I'll watch the highlights again. It doesn't matter what number the opposing player has, what matters is the Bears allowed the player to make the play. Game over and a tough loss. If the Bears play better this season, and don't make the playoffs, they can look at this game to see why.
