Bears Lose Orton, Squeak By Detroit

You know the expression, "it's not easy being green."  Well, a variation of that would apply to Bears' fans. "It's not easy being a Bears' fan."  The Bears avoided a humiliating loss when they rallied for two touchdowns and squeaked by in the 4th quarter to win 27-23.  Actually, Rex Grossman, who filled in for the injured Kyle Orton, did the squeaking, for a yard to score the winning TD with under 6:00 to play.

Then the defense barely held on to repel a last-ditch threat when a Bears' defender broke up a pass to Calvin Johnson for a potential winning TD.  There is always good news and bad news with the Bears. The good news is the team won. The Bad news is Detroit (0-8) nearly won the game. And, the starting QB Orton injured his ankle and is out for at least a month.

The Bears (5-3) have a one game lead over Green Bay and Minnesota.  It looks like it will be short-lived as the Titans (8-0) come into town for a real test. Basically, the Titans will stop rookie Matt Forte and any Chicago rushing attack, and let Grossman throw the ball. Unfortunately for the Bears, Tennessee has a great pass rush, and Grossman is prone to throwing interceptions.  This game figures to get ugly for Bears' fans. If it is a rough day weather-wise, look for the home crowd to leave early and avoid frostbite.  Why suffer in person when you can listen to the game on the radio driving home?

I am looking at the Bears with a glass half-empty.  Because the Bears at 5-3, look like the weakest "good" team in the League.  The defense gives up chunks of passing yards and the "D" unit is on the field for half the game. You can't hope for the defense to score a TD on a turnover every game.  This isn't the famed defense of the '85 Bears.  This isn't close to a unit that played in the Super Bowl, a few years back.

Matt Forte, played a good game against the Lions, rushing for over 126 yards.  But now he goes up against the Titans, who look like the '85 Bears.  It turns out that Tennessee head coach Jeff Fischer played on the Bears' team that season.  It looks like he learned something.

The Bears will fall to the Titans.  They will put up a fight with the home crowd urging them on. But it is time for a reality check. If Chicago somehow comes up with a win, it will be a huge upset.
