The Chicago Bears will be a schizo team this year. At times they might look great, at other times, like a team going no-where. And, eventually, the team might finish 9 and 7 where they were last year. Here's the deal, the Bears got a great QB, but there are about two guys who can catch the ball: Devin Hester, who used to return kick-offs and punts, and Greg Olsen, their tight end. That essentially is their pass offense. They will move the chains, and at times it may be painful to watch. And, they will score touchdowns, somebody will miss their assignment and leave a Bear wide open, or two defenders may collide and leave a Bear wide open, or someone will slip on the turf and leave Hester all alone. That will happen. But this isn't the Chargers in their hey day. Or T.O running routes. Or even Plax Burress. Heck, he may be in jail.
Their QB, Jay Cutler will have a heck of a lot of pressure on him to win the game by himself. He might win one of two games, but he's not Unitas or Montana. He's a young, talented, blessed QB with a great arm. I hope he will be seduced by the Chicago fans and become a true Bear. If that happens, he will be a leader. He will learn from Brian Urlacher, an aging linebacker whose best days perhaps have come and gone. Even on a bad day, Urlacher is good.
The Bears have too many question marks to be a really good team. Some are on the o-line, and some are on the defense. The Defense needs to toughen up and get agressive. I don't know if the Bears have the talent to back that up.
So, as the Bears go through their paces on the practice field, the buildup begins. At last, we have a quarterback who can throw the ball. And, a back, Matt Forte, who can run. Let's see if they have more.
