As a former Chicagoan living in NYC, I listened on the Jets radio station to the decimation on Monday nite by the New England Patriots. The game had a huge hype in NYC, almost as big as the Super Bowl -- and what a letdown! The Jets came up woeful and lost big-time to the great preparation of the New England coaching staff, and the great talent of Tom Brady.
Brady dissected the Jets defense and exposed them. The game was over at 17-0 in the first quarter. The Final was 45-3. Yes, what a whipping the Pats put on the Jets. Everyone here had them on the verge of going to the Super Bowl, but that talk was certainly muted, after this loss.
Jim Leonhard, the Jets safety broke his leg in practice a few days before the game. Turned out this was a bigger loss than expected. He called the signals in the secondary and was their inspirational leader. The Jets lost their bite on defense. Heck, they didn't play defense. The Patriots moved up and down the field at will. Brady had quite a night and cemented his play this season as one of the top QB's in the league.
Maybe the Jets will make the playoffs. Unless something changes quickly, the Jets will likely be a quick out. Rex Ryan better throw out the kitchen sink to make this defense work, or it's all over. Where was the bravado on D? Lost with Leonhard out for the season.
As a Bears fan it will be interesting to see the Jets come into Soldier Field. If the Bears are healthy, it will be smash mouth football. I'm betting on the Bears in that game.
