The Chicago Bears beat the New York Jets 38-34 to win their 11th game of the season. It looks like the Bears coaching staff is safe this season. The Bears actually have a good shot at getting a first round bye and hosting a playoff game.
That's a far cry from expectations at the start of the season. But today, the Bears got a great game from Devin Hester with 2 big kickoff returns. QB Jay Cutler threw 3 TD passes in the 3rd quarter. Matt Forte gained 113 yards against a tough Jets defensive team.
This game resembled a shoot-out, with teams trading touchdowns, and the Bears moving up and down the field with great field position. Cutler hit Johnny Knox for two TD's. Hester scored on a TD pass from Cutler.
The game seemed to turn on a botched fake punt which backfired for the Jets. The Jets attempted a pass on 4th down early in the 3rd quarter which give the Bears a lift. The Bears defense gave up 34 points which is a concern. The Bears playoff appearence will be brief if the Bears give up that many points. Mark Sanchez, the Jets QB looked like Joe Namath at times, completing 5 consecutive passes. The Bears defense gave up a lot of yards but Hester bailed out the team with his great kickoff returns. The Bears got field position, and Cutler went to work. He looked good today, but you don't want to get into a track meet. That's not Bears football. Getting 113 yards from Forte is Bears football.
The Bears have won 7 out of 8 games and are one of the hottest teams in the NFC. But the NFC is a weak conference this year.
