The Boston Celtics appear to be headed towards a top seed in the Eastern Conference playoffs. They added Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett and completely turned-around their season. They beat The Chicago Bulls 106-92 last night, and put a nail in the coffin of the Bulls rush to get the 8th seed in the Conference. Last night it was #1 vs. #11. Guess who won? The Celtics did.

Despite getting 24 points from Tyrus Thomas, Chicago couldn't pull off a 4th quarter rally.

Now, The Bulls are way behind Atlanta and trail the Nets and Pacers with 11 games to go. Put simply, this win one, lose two, is not getting it done. Given their season long penchant for not maintaining even a modest winning streak and the few available games to play, it looks dim for the Bulls playoff hopes. They just might not be good enough to get in.

The Chicago Cubs lost another close one at Wrigley today and now their record is 1-3.  This is not cause for panic--yet. It is an observation of wonderment. How else would the Cubs start the season?  If they were 3-1. Chicago would be hyperventilating -- with images of red, white, and blue, bunting decorating the field. Well, it's not post-season yet. Not by a long shot. Not to be decided now, nor in May, or June. Unless Soriano pulls a double-hammy.

The Cubs are finding their way. Eventually, they will get to .500, likely in the second week of the season...and then begin in earnest, the journey to making the post-season in consecutive years.  Which is akin to swimming Lake Michigan doing a backstroke. Poets and playwrights have lamented about the Cubs. Harry Caray, has stumbled about the "Cub." This season they put a statue of Ernie Banks, at Wrigley --  the great Mr. Cub, in case anyone would forget him.

The season for the Chicago Bulls is coming to a merciful end. The Bulls will finish out of the playoff race and will have more time to ponder what went right and what went wrong.

The Bulls have gone through a coaching change and a major mid-season trade. These changes failed to kick-start a moribound start for a club that disappointed this season.  The Bulls had made the playoffs that last three years and based on last years' performance, where it gave the Pistons a scare in its playoff series, the team was expected to at least compete in a 2nd round series. Well, it never got off the ground.

Now, Jim Boylan, the interim head coach is expected to be shown the door in favor of a more experienced coach.

It will be a new team, with a new head coach...and no one knows what's going to happen, at least until the draft is held.  The Bulls have talent to move. But, I'd hate to see Deng, or Gordon go. They have worn the Bulls uniform well.  Of course, it depends who the Bulls would get to replace these players. If the Bulls can upgrade, then show me. That's the GM's charge.  So it is wait and see and Goodbye to this season.

It's been a long time since both the White Sox and Cubs led their divisions and their fast starts are the reason why. The White Sox are the more surprising team of the two. Joe Crede has shown he regained his swing following his back surgery. A homer here, a Grand-Slam there...way to go Joe!

Gavin Floyd is showing why the Sox thought highly of him to put him in the starting rotation and he has pitched well. Flirting with a no-hit game late. This is good news. The ChiSox can hang around if they continue to get good pitching and timely hitting. Let Detroit get hot. If you start off terrible, you have to dig yourself out of it. It may take a month, by then hopefully Chicago can put some distance between them and the Tigers. Let's see how the young players respond to winning some games...They've put up with the elements. And the weather will warm up. Hopefully the bats will too.
