Geez, Gavin Floyd went into the 9th inning needing just two outs to record a no-hitter but Joe Maurer hit a shot to the outfield that went for a double and suddenly, it was over. For this game. But, this is the second time, that Floyd has come close to pitching a "game to remember." Against Detroit, about 3 weeks ago, he went 7+ innings before losing the bid in the 8th. Well, he's getting closer.
It must have been a thrill to be there at U.S. Cellular Field, the home crowd sensing history in the making.
Alas, The White Sox broke a long losing streak that had triggered Ozzie Guillen to go into a tirade against media, fans, and Mrs. O'Leary's cow. When will the Sox get a break? A no-hitter would have stolen the media thunder away from Cubdom. Let's face it, The crowds pack into Wrigley every game. It's the place to go, and the place to be seen, and oh, a game goes on. Sometimes the Cubs win.
