Andres Nocioni

21 February 2009

Sacramento Kings

Bulls send: SF Andres Nocioni, PF Drew Gooden, PF Michael Ruffin, SF Cedric Simmons
Bulls receive: C Brad Miller, SF John Salmons

Analysis: Chicago added Gooden’s expiring contract to get out from under Nocioni’s exorbitant deal that has three years remaining. Nocioni was the heart of this team for some time with his gutsy play and willingness to take the big hits. This year however, his performance had declined due to some injury issues and a logjam at small forward. Gooden has produced for the Bulls, but injuries also plagued his season, and in the world of the cost-cutting NBA, his expiring deal was a huge bargaining chip. Ruffin and Simmons are throw-aways in this deal.

Noah put up 15 boards and had some good low post scoring as well. Andres Nocioni put up 24 in the win. So the combo of Nocioni, Hinrich and Noah combined for 78 points.

Sure, the Pacers looked a little lethargic and  uninterested at points. But a win is a win. Especially a team you are trailing in the playoff hunt. I know its probably a little early to truly consider this a playoff team, but they are in range of skating in. The biggest thing is for them to play well every game from now on. Its a tough thing to accomplish but after how good they looked last night and against Detroit recently, they could put together some good wins.

Last night the Bulls played well.

Luol Deng was out with that sore achilles tendon problem and Andres Nocioni started in his place putting up 21 points. Thabo Sefalosha started and put up nice numbers. He had 12 points and 13 boards all while having the 2nd most minutes in the game with 35:39. By sticking with Thabo, Jim Boylan kept in a young guy who has been playing well in his new role.

for the first half. But they once again fell apart towards the end. Yes Ben Gordon scored 29 and Andres Nocioni scored 28. Those are nice statistics, but when the game is one the line, the Bulls still do not have a clue how to finish.

't get to watch the entire game, I did see the horrible first and the promising second.

Andres Nocioni had 7 rebounds and 26 points after starting again for the injured Luol Deng. While this wasn't the best team in the league, the Bulls have struggled against every team in the league so any type of decent scoring and rebounding by anyone is appreciated. Joe Smith also put up 19 points and 6 boards.

But the Bulls still have to play games in his absence.

Andres Nocioni got the start in place of the injured Deng, which might have been a good idea against a team that plays a little rougher in the Knicks. The game was competitive throughout though. There was never a major point when either team was far ahead of the other. The Bulls held a couple of 9 point leads at various points, but that was the biggest margin.

It is good to see Andres Nocioni playing as well as he has been playing. And the field goal percentage has started to creep its way back up. So there is some true potential.

They had decent perimeter shooting. Good hard nosed play from some key guys. Andres Nocioni has been improving his game each time he steps on the court. And Kirk Hinrich has been getting more towards what has been expected out of him. All around it was not like watching the drubbing they got from the Raptors at the United Center earlier in the year.
