This game was way more exciting than the final score would indicate. Tony “Fat Hand” Romo played a pretty decent game (he’s also clearly “tough”), but the Cowboy secondary showed MAJOR lapses on coverage and an inability to make open tackles. Victor Cruz just lit up that backfield and made it crystal clear where the Cowboys need to focus personnel moves this offseason. Terence Newman may have lost them that game with several bone-headed plays. Cut.

Otherwise it’ll be up to the Cowboys to knock Michael Vick out of the playoffs and perhaps get Andy Reid canned. I’m not sure I can place my faith in them to do that. Crap.

How much did you want to see this game continue? After Eli came through with another clutch performance in a touchdown drive, Tony Romo came right back to get the ‘Boys in field goal range… which was promptly blocked by Jason Pierre Paul after Tom Coughlin iced kicker Dan Bailey. For Dallas, the loss of Demarco Murray to a fractured leg might be a bigger loss than the game itself. In Giant land, they hold off a last-second loss and are squarely in command of the NFC East.

Fascinating because of its possible impact on the NFC Division hunt, the Giants can get right back in the thick of the chase with a win in Big D Sunday night. I have to say… these teams are wildly inconsistent to me. The G-Men are feeling good about themselves after a close loss to Green Bay while the Cowboys are reeling due to a crushing overtime loss to the Cardinals. I’m not positive this will be a good game, but it should be an entertaining one.

That defense is going to provide stiff resistance to Romo, but for some reason I’m feeling the Cowboys today. Odd, I know. I’m not sure that last season could have been any worse for the Cowboys. This time around, their fortunes should turn for the better, especially since Jason Garrett gets to call plays that actually work. Felix Jones looks ready to tear up the turf as the starting running back in Big D, and if Dez Bryant takes the next step forward as an elite receiver then the Dallas offense will have a big year. Hell, a full year of Tony Romo is worth an extra three wins at least. (No offense John Kitna, but I will NEVER believe in you.) Rob Ryan’s taking over as defensive coordinator, but the Dallas secondary is still suspect. They upgraded at safety with Abram Elam, but Mike Jenkins as their top corner is a major issue. Though Ryan gets to play with DeMarcus Ware... which is pretty scary. They might sneak into the postseason.

Now THAT was a game. Though in spite of the score, those Cowboys just don’t move the ball without Tony Romo under center. I don’t care about Kitna’s accuracy when he’s only throwing five yard passes all day. Eventually you have to stretch the field as an offense or defenders will begin to clamp down just as the Eagles did. And I could care less that Tashard Choice went to get Mike Vick's autograph after the game. Just because they lost doesn't mean they needed to be decimated and depressed like their fans are. It's just a game yo. Though DeSean Jackson is an ass. (A fast one though.)

This game is the most likely to end in an upset, but I’m not yet buying into all of the Jason Garrett hype. Two wins in a row is impressive, but let’s not get confused. Dallas has its issues. Jon Kitna isn’t going to play at a high level every outing. Today I’m expecting a few interceptions from a Saints defense that has been stellar this season. The reason they’re winning lately is because of Drew Brees and the explosiveness of the Saint offense. And against that Dallas secondary, that will continue.

Jason Garrett has a long way to go before he can think about earning the head coaching job.

What a travishamockery. The Cowboy players deserve a hefty share of the blame, but poor Wade Philips got the bulk of it today when Jerry Jones fired him. I'd blame the offensive line that misses too many blocks and the defense that's been giving up points in bulk before I'd blame Philips. But it was going to happen eventually anyway, so what's the point in waiting? For Green Bay, gaining sole possession of first place in their division is huge going down the stretch.

Tom Coughlin will find plenty to criticize this week.

Best. Panic Bowl. Ever. ...Okay, perhaps not, but it was at least entertaining. Dallas continues to shoot themselves in the foot with ridiculously idiotic penalties that negate field position and take away touchdowns. When is Wade Philips going to start coaching his players and holding them accountable? Oh that's right, never. Brad Childress' Vikings are closing in towards surface level, but they still have a ton of problems. Randy Moss hasn't been integrated fully into the offense yet and Brett Favre is taking too many unnecessary hits. Old man Favre won't last all season.

This might be the most pressurized game in the history of week six. One of these supposed Super Bowl favorites will be 1-4 after tonight and looking at a long road ahead to the playoffs. Dallas will take every opportunity to send the house at the injured Brett Favre, who could decide to retire at halftime, depending on how bad the game goes. I'm just saying. Watch for it.

Let's be clear, this loss isn't all Tony Romo's fault. I mean, the guy did pass for over 400 yards. Maybe the Cowboy special teams shouldn't give up a near touchdown late in the fourth? Or perhaps the defense could have decided to hold the Titans to a field goal on just ONE of those touchdowns. Giving up over 150 yards on the ground isn't a recipe for success. And for an awfully predictable Titans offense, they're finding ways to win.

This might be ugliest, most physical and most penalized game of the weekend. Both squads are undisciplined at times and are large up front. This one will come down to which quarterback can make the least mistakes, and my money is on Tony Romo (as yours should be) to outplay Vince Young. Should be a fun one to watch though.

Either Houston isn't as good as everyone thought (though I wasn't buying it completely) or Dallas doesn't completely suck. It's likely a bit of both, but Dallas came out and  tore apart the Texan's pass defense. They ran enough to keep the defense honest, but Tony Romo's 284 yards and 2 TD's weere the story. A rare Roy Williams sighting didn't hurt either. He'll have to step-up when teams are giving extra coverage to Miles Austin. Matt Schaub's two interceptions were an oddity. I'd bet this team is back on track next week against Oakland. Just a hunch.

It's time for a Texas Take-down! A panic-stricken Cowboy squad can't afford to turn the ball over and make mistakes against this Texan offense. Offensive coordinator Jason Garrett may overreact and force the run this week, but it's pretty obvious to me that he should pass the ball against Houston's defense, which has given up more than 400 yards passing in each of their first two games. Look out in Cowboy-land if they start 0-3. My popcorn is ready.

It certainly didn't start pretty, but the Chicago Bears offense showed up and came out of Dallas with a much deserved win. Jay Cutler looked phenomenal in a 27-20 win over the Cowboys on Sunday, leading the the Bears to a 2-0 record. If you missed this great game, here's what you didn't see.

wanting to waste your time, let's get right into some analysis!

(1-0) Chicago Bears at
(0-1) Dallas Cowboys

Ignoring the four ridiculous turnovers, the Bear offense looked fluid and functional against the Lions last week, an odd change-up from recent years. Jay Cutler was on target with his throws and made great decisions with the football. However, that was against the Lion defense. If the they could muster four sacks on Cutler, how much is the line going to struggle to block exceptional tackle Jay Ratliff, end Marcus Spears or linebackers Anthony Spencer, Bradie James or All-Pro DeMarcus Ware? I'm not thrilled at their prospects. Chris Williams will have his hands full. Look for plenty of Mike Martz screen passes to the running back to off-set and take advantage of the 'Boys' rush, but eventually he'll have to take his shots downfield. Terence Newman and Mike Jenkins have speed and toughness at the corner position, but they will be out-of-place on occasion. Devin Aromashodu should be able to take advantage of his size as Knox may struggle to get open if Newman's on his back.  As much as he avoids it, Martz can't ignore the running game today, or Jay Cutler will get smacked around even more than he already will. Hand-offs and screen passes will be Jay's Best friend. Getting Greg Olsen in mismatches against safeties or 'backers will be another outlet for Jay if he's in trouble.

Two huge mistakes cost the Cowboys this win. A Tashard Choice fumble on a half-ending play that should never have been called led to the Redskins' only touchdown and an Alex Barron holding penalty on what would have been a game-ending touchdown pass from Tony Romo ensured the 'Boys started 0-1. When you don't give up an offensive touchdown but you can't manage two score 14 points, you're in trouble. Donovan McNabb looked fairly mediocre in his 'Skins debut, but he didn't turn the ball over and got the win. That's what matters.

This NFC East rivalry is always a fun one to watch, so tune in on Sunday night. Donovan McNabb has something to prove in his opener with the 'Skins but his ankle still isn't fully healed. That could mean less mobility and more hits taken from DeMarcus Ware and that Cowboy pass rush. I look for Tony Romo to have a big day. Oh, and that fat and lazy Haynesworth guy will play a bit.

It's Tony Romo time y'all! The Dallas QB returns after his best season in the pro's to a passing offense that ranked 6th overall. Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are probably the best trio of running backs in the league, each bringing a different wrinkle to the offense. Unfortunately they'll be running behind a line that has been decimated with injuries. Keep an eye on Doug Free at left tackle to see if he makes through the switch from right to left tackle. Receiver Miles Austin had a break-out season, firmly supplanting Roy Williams as the number one wide-out. Now Williams could be ousted by rookie Dez Bryant, who after missing almost a year of football looks poised for a big year.

All that frustration faded away as he saw the Dallas Cowboys trading up to get ahead of the Baltimore Ravens, a likely landing spot. Proving that their shut-out win last week was no fluke, the Dallas Cowboys picked up right where they left off with a 34-14 blowout win over the Philadelphia Eagles Saturday night. In a flag-filled contest (actually setting a playoff record for most penalty yards), only Dallas overcame their mistakes. Philly never stood a chance.

Surrounded by a rapidly-developing core of young talent, Donovan McNabb has his Eagles back in the playoffs anxious to to capture that elusive Super Bowl win. DeSean Jackson is the most explosive receiver in the league, but he also returns punts, making him a game-planning headache for opposing coaches. Brent Celek hasn't been mentioned enough as one of the best tight ends in the NFC while LeSean McCoy has filled in admirably for Brain Westbrook at running back. Losing to the Cowboys twice this year has Andy Reid's Eagles on edge.

I'm sure the confidence gained from pummeling their playoff opponent won't hurt Green Bay.

Even though I thought the Cowboys would win, there was no one who could have seen this coming. With the number two seed and a bye to play for, the Eagles came out and were dominated by a vicious Cowboys defense and a hard-nosed running game. The worry for Philly fans comes from the Eagles' complete inability to generate offense without hitting a big play. They have problems sustaining drives and running the ball, which are paramount in the playoffs. This win may have saved Wade Philips' job but Jerry Jones doesn't want them to stop here. A win over the Eagles this weekend would give them the hat-trick over their division rivals, something of which Jones can be proud.

Cardinals may have more to play for, but I like the Packers.

(11-4) Philadelphia Eagles at (10-5) Dallas Cowboys

Easily the best game of the weekend, there's no drama missing from this match-up. Not only are the Cowboys and Eagles division rivals, but the division championship is on the line in their afternoon meeting. Beyond that, Philly lambasted Dallas at the end of last season, knocking them out of the playoff hunt. If Dallas wins they have a chance a the 2 seed, but they need a load of help. Philly has the inside track on that slot, needing only a win to take a week off. Don't miss this one. I'm mixed, but I'll take Dallas.

Speaking of the Cowboys, they beat up on the small child that is the Redskins organization and surprisingly still have a shot at the NFC number two seed if they get some help. Winning two in a row in December goes a long way in shaking thir history, but they still need to win at least one playoff game for Wade Philips to keep his job. Tony Romo is playing mistake-free at the QB position and is supported by a trio of talented running backs. Dallas is getting hot at the right time.

I love the Eagles over the offensively challenged Broncos.

(8-6) Dallas Cowboys at (4-10) Washington Redskins

In spite of all their "December woes" of years past, this Cowboys team has the inside track towards the playoffs. While not quite a powerhouse, Dallas has enough talent to be dangerous and Tony Romo is playing his best as of late. Conversely, the Redskins are a joke. After playing well but losing for most of the season, they packed it in last week against the Giants. This week, their high-priced defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was sent home from practice for being late. Now he's voicing his displeasure with Greg Blache's defensive scheme because its not tailored toward his talents. While I may not like his public display, I agree with the $100 million dollar man. What's the point of signing a defensive force if your scheme doesn't play to his strengths. Oh well. The next coach won't have that problem. Cowboys over Indians.

Let's start the Opening Drive of week 15 in the NFL!

(8-5) Dallas Cowboys at (13-0) New Orleans Saints 

Dallas' DeMarcus Ware is going to play less than a week after suffering a neck strain, but that may not be enough for the free-falling Cowboys. Going into New Orleans and escaping with a victory will require near-flawless play and a lot of luck. Even without tight end Jeremy Shockey, Drew Brees has an abundance of weapons at his disposal. If the Saints move to 14-0, it will could signal the end of Dallas' playoff hopes and the end of Wade Philips' tenure as head coach.

Oh Tony Romo, why do you get all the grief and blame? I don't think anything's wrong with the Cowboys this season, they just have a ridiculously difficult end of the season schedule. While they're not the powerhouse of years past, I've seen some positives from Dallas this year. Chargers QB Philip Rivers is once again putting on an MVP-type performance that no one will notice.

What a derailing of Dallas’ domination. (Hasn’t quite been domination, but I wanted the alliteration. Now I rhymed. Yikes.) Green Bay’s 3-4 defense confused the heck out of Tony Romo and the Dallas offense, who ironically see a 3-4 EVERY DAY in practice. For Green Bay, the only way to off-set all the sacks on Aaron Rodgers (besides protecting him) is to hit the snot out of the other QB.

A four-game winning streak will be on the line for tony Romo and the ‘Boys when they roll into Lambeau Field today. The Packers have lost two in a row and are in danger of an injury to Aaron Rodgers with the way Dallas rushes the QB. Green Bay desperately needs a successful running game to keep that defense off his back. Mike McCarthy is certainly feeling pressure to get his team back to the playoffs and dropping to 4-5 won’t do his job security any favors.

(5-2) Dallas Cowboys at (5-2) Philadelphia Eagles

Remember a few weeks ago when I said the Cowboys were finished if they don’t start winning? Well, they started. Now in week nine they’re playing for sole possession of first place in the NFC East on Sunday Night Football. Tony Romo has been the improved quarterback Cowboy fans thought he would be, even without a healthy connection with receiver Roy Williams. Romo’s mistake free play has brought the ‘Boys back to life, but now they head to Philly to take on the rival Eagles. Donovan McNabb has only thrown one interception this season (but he did miss a few games, so that has to matter). With each team’s ability to rush the passer, establishing the rush and the short pass will be paramount. Even if Brian Westbrook misses the game to recover from his concussion two week ago, LeSean McCoy can pick up the slack.

What’s with teams not wanting to tackle Cowboy receivers? Miles Austin and Sam Hurd have just been embarrassing defenders left and right. Tony Romo has put his team in a position to take first in the East following their next game, which comes against rival Philadelphia. In Seattle, injuries abound for the second straight year. There is no way this team could fight for a division title.

Well holy crap, someone is looking like T.O.’s replacement in Dallas, and it isn’t Roy Williams. Miles Austin snagged six Tony Romo throws for a whopping 171 yards and two scores. Romo has found his stride these past two games, this time leading his team to a win over a solid Falcons squad. Don’t look now, but at 4-2 these Cowpokes aren’t out of the NFC East mix yet.  With the same 4-2 record, the Falcons are in danger of falling behind the undefeated Saints.

Hey, did you notice last weekend there wasn’t an ounce of Cowboy news? Thank goodness for bye weeks. The ‘Boys are back this week as they welcome the Falcons into their behemoth of a stadium. I’m still not a believer in these Cowboys’ chances. Their running game is key to their success, but Falcons’ defense is stout on the ground, as evidenced by their game against Chicago. Matt Ryan should have a big day against a Dallas defense that has had trouble rushing the passer.

Either we were giving Denver too little credit or we were giving Dallas too much credit. It’s probably a bit of both, but I’ll still say its more overrating Dallas than anything else. The Cowboys are a .500 team that can at best manage 9-7. Denver has a rough schedule coming up that includes New England, San Diego, Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Let’s see where Josh McDaniels, Kyle Orton and 4-0 go from here.

After beating the Bengals, Browns and Raiders, this will be the first true test for the 3-0 Denver Broncos. Their defense may be improved from last year’s disaster, but they haven’t exactly shut down juggernauts through three weeks. Dallas should come in and run all over Denver’s D, or there will be another crisis week in Big D.

I guess the Cowboys didn’t need Jon Kitna to start after all. After 0 turnovers and sacks combined in their first two games, the Cowboys rebounded with three of each against the Panthers. Dallas ran for over 200 yards for the second straight game, giving the fans in their massive stadium something to cheer about. (But does anyone watching the game on TV in a non-Dallas market give a crap about the stadium?) Jake Delhomme and the Panthers are in for a long season.

I could care less who wins this game. Carolina at 0-3 and Dallas at 1-2 are simply fantastic storylines. Still, with Denver and Kansas City coming up for the Cowboys, they have time to right the ship. They could be 3-2 headed into their week 6 bye. But one can hope!

The opening of “Jerry World” (or “Jerry Land,” who cares) didn’t go exactly as planned. Romo just looked lost at times as he threw three interceptions. Still, when you run for 251 yards, you should win. But Eli Manning and the Giants calmly came back and got the field goal to win it. He’s shaping up to be an elite QB.

-For Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys, the second day of the draft was busy, but uneventful. Like Chicago, Dallas traded out of the first day to garner more selections later on. Problem is, other teams kept jumping on their target players before Dallas went on the clock. The Roy Williams trade impacted this draft heavily, sending the ‘Boys’ first and third round picks to Detroit. It will be more than amusing if Williams doesn’t prove that worth.

I know. I was just as confused when you heard the news that controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens had been signed by the Buffalo Bills. For a player with a troublesome history like Owens, this might be his last chance to redeem himself and prove he can play nice with others. For a team that barely gets any national attention, Buffalo just cannon-balled into the media pool. I did not see this coming. Oakland? Yes. Al Davis loves stockpiling problem children. Then it’s always a surprise when they’re a problem and are released a year later. Buffalo? Dick Jauron is the model of calm and non-confrontational. Trent Edwards is a second year quarterback whose growth could be stunted if T.O. starts acting up early. Is this a good acquisition for the Bills? Well, to answer simply: maybe.

It’s no secret that the NFL draft draws worldwide interest. In fact, next to the Super Bowl, it is the most watched football-related event of the year. Now, it’s true that some of this mass appeal can be attributed to scheduling: its late April arrival each year serves as an oasis of sorts to the average football fan in the barren emptiness that separates the end of the Super Bowl and the start of training camp. Plus, it is the one true event that merges the collegiate and professional levels–thus, unifying two enormous pools of fans. So, this is all to say that I fully understand the inherent appeal of the system. The yearly NFL Combine, however, I believe to be an entirely different animal.

The crystal ball had a mediocre performance this past week, going a mere 2-2.  This is playoff time, so that is unacceptable!  The crystal ball took its lumps on the Colts game, but it’s okay with it since Norv’s our buddy!  Anyway, that puts the crystal ball at 2-2 for the post-season, and 35-28-1 overall.  That’s seven games over .500 (.555 to be exact).  Hopefully the crystal ball will perform better this coming week, as the pressure mounts in post-season play!  Let’s take a look back, and review what happened last week.

           Wildcard weekend had an interesting lineup of games this year.  All four road teams (wildcard teams) were favored to win over the home teams (division winners).  That’s unusual, but this year it actually makes a lot of sense.  Many of the wildcard teams had better records than the division winners.  In the end, the underdogs won two of the four games (both 6th seeds defeated the 3rd seeded teams).

           This past Sunday, the Dallas Cowboys traveled to Lincoln Financial Field to play the Philadelphia Eagles in what was a win and you’re in the playoffs game.  This game had a lot of build-up prior kick-off.  The Eagles found out, about 15 minutes before the game started, that the stars had aligned for them; the Bears and Buccaneers had both lost.  This game had everything football fans wanted.  It was the ‘Boys against the Birds, with their playoff destinies on the line.

           On Saturday night, the Cowboys had a golden opportunity to close out Texas Stadium in style.  This was the final game to be played at the stadium.  A Cowboys win would have been a fitting end to a stadium that has had many classic games.  A win, and the Cowboys would have been one step further in their quest for a playoff berth, and a Super Bowl run.

The Cowboys kept their playoff hopes alive as they took down the Giants in a physical drag-out type of game last week. For this one, Tony Romo is listed as having a 'back contusion', but is expected to start the game. Thats good news, but I wouldn't expect otherwise. This game is just as big as last Sunday night against the Giants. The Ravens also have a lot to play for as they try for an AFC wild card bid. If the Ravens defense has their way, they'll have Romo on his heels. But who do I think will win this game? Good question. I pick Dallas. They just have too much talent. Baltimore has a lot to play for, but Dallas is Dallas. I pick Dallas! I think Romo and co will find a way....any way to win against Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Joe Flacco and company on Saturday night in the last game played at Texas Stadium.

Week sixteen’s Opening Drive begins right now!

Baltimore Ravens (9-5) at Dallas Cowboys (9-5)

As each team sits at a 9-5 logjam with other wildcard hopefuls, Saturday night's contest will go a long way in fulfilling their postseason aspirations. The main difference is that while Dallas is in contention for either wild card slot, Baltimore is fighting for only one, as Indianapolis will likely end up with the fifth seed. Dallas made a “Giant” statement by beating the NFC’s best last Sunday night and can’t afford a let-down versus the Ravens. Tony Romo is assured a few bad throws, but if he can put up enough points the Ravens won’t be able to recover. Joe Flacco is looking to rebound from a terrible showing against Pittsburgh, needing a big game to outscore the Dallas offense. The Ravens’ defense won’t have much room for error, as their offense will not explode against a stout Dallas defensive front.

           Last year, the Cowboys sent 13 players to Hawaii for the Pro Bowl.  Granted, a few of those players made it by name alone, but for the most part they deserved it.  When you go 13-3, as the Cowboys did last year, you tend to get a lot of coattail votes.  This year the ‘Boys will be sending only 5 players.

The crystal ball, once again, had a stellar performance this past week, going undefeated at 4-0.  Truly a tremendous achievement, as many of the games had playoff implications.  That puts the crystal ball at 29-22-1 for the season.  That’s seven games over .500 (.567 to be exact).  Not many prognosticators gave the Cowboys much of a chance against the G-Men, but the crystal ball took a chance on them.  The ‘Boys rewarded the crystal ball, and pulled off the upset.  Let’s review and see what happened last week.

sp;      Last night, on NBC’s prime time Sunday Night Football, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the New York Giants, 20-8.  The Cowboys desperately needed the win, as they are fighting for their playoff lives.  The Cowboys are now 9-5, but so are the Vikings, the Bucs, and the Falcons.  The Eagles and Bears aren’t that far behind either.  With the Cowboys facing the Ravens and the Eagles in their next two games, the ‘Boys needed a win…desperately.
