Yates somehow covered by a half point. Who knew?(11-7) New York Giants 37
(15-2) Green Bay Packers 20

There were a lot of similarities between the way Green Bay started this game and the way New Orleans stumbled out of the gate. The difference is while New Orleans made some key turnovers; their offense didn’t look as out of sync. Anyone watching thought the Saints could make their way back in it. You never really felt that way about the Packers, who were just off. Mike McCarthy had some questionable decisions in this one too. His surprise onside kick after the Packers’ first touchdown would have been the subject of intense criticism had his special teams not come up with the block on the Giants’ resulting field goal try.

(10-7) New York Giants at
(15-1) Green Bay Packers
4:30 PM ET, FOX

Everyone’s been talking about the Giant defensive line against the Packers’ banged up o-line (and rightfully so), but I’d be awfully worried about Rodgers’ receivers versus that craptacular Giant secondary. McCarthy has to know this and will probably come out will all sorts of quick passes designed to get that line away from his QB. That’s what Jennings, Nelson, Jones and Driver are there for, isn’t it? Jason Pierre-Paul, Osi Umenyiora and Justin Tuck are going to be rushing Rodgers all day, but if he gets rid of the ball before they get there, their effectiveness will be awfully limited. I’d say the Packers will run the ball in order to ease the pressure off Aaron, but I don’t really believe that. There’s going to be throwing. Lots of throwing.

The Final Drive must begin!(15-1) Green Bay Packers 45

This makes me beyond furious. Mike McCarthy takes out his MVP quarterback and starts a fourth year back-up with one career start in Matt Flynn, and f*cking records are broken. Six touchdowns? 480 yards? Who wouldn’t want to be Matt Flynn right now? That guy is about to make BANK as a free agent. Blow me Green Bay. Take your awesome quarterback development and blow me.

(14-1) Green Bay Packers 35
(7-8) Chicago Bears 21

On the very first drive of the game, Aaron Rodgers made sure his team grabbed a number one seed and never looked back, leading the Packers on a 9-play, 80 yard touchdown drive that ended with a 2 yard slant to Jermichael Finley in to make it 7-0. That drive featured ONE running play and some insanely accurate passing. The Bears couldn’t even hope to keep up, thought their defense held Rodgers in check for most of the first half… until he found James Jones on another slant to put Green Bay up 14-3 at halftime. Despite out-gaining and controlling the time of possession in the first half, Chicago had nearly nothing to show for it.

llip; it’ll ease your mood going into the game.
(7-7) Chicago Bears at
(13-1) Green Bay Packers

When last these teams met, the Bears had their “full” complement of weaponry. Now they’re without quarterback Jay Cutler, running back Matt Forte and receiver Johnny Knox, not to mention a slew of offensive linemen that are on injured reserve. Instead of the dreadful Caleb Hanie, the recently-signed Josh McCown will get the start tonight in the hopes of sparking some sort (or ANY sort) of offensive output. McCown, who hasn’t started a game since 2007, shouldn’t have much expectations placed on him. I’ve barely seen him throw the ball in those four years since he got action in Detroit, but he won’t get much help tonight. Even beyond Forte and Knox, Marion Barber won’t see the field at all as he re-aggravated his calf injury from earlier in the season. That leaves Kahlil Bell as the starting tailback. I have NO idea where the Bears’ offense is going to come from, and neither do you. That’s not even mentioning Green Bay’s blitzing scheme that’s going to expose Mike Tice’s sub-par offensive tackles. Clay Matthews is going to see McCown in the backfield often. Oh, and if McCown’s injured or REALLY stinks? Caleb Hanie is the back-up. That’s right. Nathan Enderle can’t even make it on the active roster over a guy that will not return next year. High hopes for that “project.” (That was dripping with sarcasm, by the way.)

Another streak brought to a necessary conclusion! Honestly, as much as we generally thought the Packers COULD do it, it’s probably better that they didn’t. Injuries to their offensive line killed them yesterday against the Chief pass rush, just one facet of a defense that made it difficult on Aaron Rodgers. Well done Romeo Crennel. I really just had to put this one on here because it features two teams with winning records, once of which needs a win to keep pace in the playoff hunt. I really don’t expect the Raiders to give Green Bay much of a fight unless Carson Palmer can sling it deep with consistency. Mike McCarthy would probably prefer that opponents keep it on the ground, which is exactly what the opposing Raiders like to do most.

Hey, remember when this looked like it could be a match-up between two undefeated teams? …That would have been AWESOME. Despite Detroit’s faltering along the way, this is still shaping up to be a tremendous game, with lots and LOTS of scoring. Green Bay has no need to run the ball and Detroit doesn’t have the ability to run, so expect 40 passes on the day for each quarterback. It’ll be a shoot-out to start the day.

It was a sloppy game for both sides, with penalties and turnovers a’plenty.

(3-0) Green Bay Packers 27
(1-2) Chicago Bears 17

After being rocked by New Orleans, Cutler enjoyed a leisurely, sack-free first half against the Packers, in which he heated up and began to find holes in the defensive schemes, keeping it within reach at 17-10 at halftime. Unfortunately, Jay’s two interceptions off-set the two Packer turnovers. Cutler became more skittish and off-target with his throws as the game drew on, often over-throwing his receivers. They didn’t help matters either. Roy Williams was involved in several negative plays as he was the target on both of Cutler’s interceptions, but those looked to be mostly on Jay. He did however drop a sure touchdown at the goal line which was forgotten thanks to the Dane Sanzenbacher score on the next play. Knox dropped a few passes and Hester couldn’t get enough separation, leaving Sanzenbacher to be on the receiving end of most of Jay’s throws.

t blog posting before their opener against Atlanta.
2010 Record: 11-5
2011 Prediction: ???Green Bay Packers

Last year the Packers were decimated by injury, signing running backs off the street so they could compete down the stretch on their way to a Super Bowl victory. This year their luck on that front can’t help but turn around, so how much better can they be? Decidedly, in my opinion. Add the multitude of returning veterans from injury with a stable draft class and you’ll see a team that is as prepared as any to repeat. Aaron Rodgers was the cream of the NFC QB crop in 2010, and that was without top receiving tight end Jermichael Finley. Re-signing WR James Jones keeps Rodgers’ superb receiving corps intact. Look for the Packers to split carries more efficiently between the not-as-durable Ryan Grant, James Starks and fan-favorite fullback John Kuhn. Where the Packers might not be as strong is on the defensive line, losing DE Cullen Jenkins to the Eagles. That may affect their ability to lure blockers away from their pass-rushing linebackers Clay Matthews and Erik Walden. Regardless, veteran Charles Woodson and the still-emerging Tramon Williams are among the tops at the corner position, letting Green Bay play their man coverage schemes with effectiveness.  The Packers have the pure talent and ability to run over the NFC and it’ll show this year in their record.

Super Bowl XLV
(14-6) Green Bay Packers 31
(14-5) Pittsburgh Steelers 25

It may have taken 12 minutes, but the Green Bay Packers found a way to get on the board first against the vaunted Pittsburgh Steelers defense with a 29-yard throw from Rodgers to Jordy Nelson. Then sixteen seconds later, they scored again off an underthrown Roethlisberger pass right to Packer safety Nick Collins, who took it 37 yards to make it 14-0. It played right into the Packers’ hands, as Big Ben was then forced to start slinging the ball around instead of sticking to the running game, with only 23 rushing attempts for the team and only 14 for Rashard Mendenhall.

Oh prop pets. How I love thee. Honestly, could there be any more inane and luck-filled practice than the time-honored tradition of Super Bowl prop bets?

For those of you who aren’t familiar, proposition bets (or prop bets, batch) are simply side bets. So instead of betting on the outcome, you’ll bet on which team scores first, who is the game’s MVP, or even what color the Gatorade dumped on a coach will be. Here are some of my favorite prop bets I’ve seen for Super Bowl XLV.How long will it take Christina Aguilera to sing the National Anthem?

s the Bears dropped a heartbreaker on their home turf (re: dirt.)

Chicago Tribune(13-6) Green Bay Packers 21
(12-6) Chicago Bears 14

As soon as the game kicked-off, the Bears were playing on their heels, trying to catch up. The Packers tore up chunks of yardage early on, finding the holes in Smith’s cover-two. Aaron Rodgers was precise with his passes, finding his wide-outs behind the linebackers and out towards the sidelines. It seemed as if every Packer play went for 20+ yards, and that’s not really hyperbole. Down 14-0 in the early second, Chicago hadn’t mounted much of an offense, despite Matt Forte’s best intentions. Forte’s 70 yards on the ground and 90 through the air (with ten catches, no less) make him the clear MVP in the loss. He kept the Green Bay defense honest which made it easier for Caleb Hanie to step in as he did after Jay left the game early in the third with his injury.

Still, it was a fun game with plenty of fighting and penalties.

(12-6) Green Bay Packers 48
(13-4) Atlanta Falcons 21

Everything that made the Falcons the top seed in the NFC was lost on Saturday as the Packers tore them apart and blew them out in primetime. Matt Ryan threw two costly interceptions, they fumbled twice, they only ran for 45 yards and their defense only managed two sacks on Aaron Rodgers on the night. The Packers came in hot and smothered the Falcons on both sides of the ball. Even after a fumble by Greg Jennings on Green Bay’s first drive led to a Falcons score, the Packers responded with a long drive of their own and put up 7. Then the Falcons returned a kickoff for a touchdown, which was promptly answered by a John Kuhn run. That was the start of a 35-point spree from the Packers, who never took their foot off the gas.

The Breakdown:

If it weren’t for Jets-Patriots… or Ravens-Steelers, this would be the game of the weekend. Still, don’t overlook the drama that will come tonight when Aaron Rodgers heads to Atlanta to take on Matt Ryan. Two of the best young quarterbacks in the league lead dynamic offenses, but it will be the defenses that decide this one. Green Bay has been one of the best scoring defenses in the NFL all season long. Linebacker Clay Matthews will be moved all over the field Saturday night in an effort to get more pressure on Ryan. As good as the Packer defense is, they’re geared to stop the pass, especially when they throw out their 5-DB sets. Michal Turner could give them fits if he gets going early. Rodgers is going to need similar help from James Starks if they’re going to keep Ryan and Turner on the sidelines and off the scoreboard. If I were the Pack, I’d set Tramon Williams on Roddy White and let Charles Woodson do anything and everything.

Okay, so the Chiefs weren’t ready for this one. Not even close.(11-6) Green Bay Packers 21
(10-7) Philadelphia Eagles 16

The 2010 redemption story (on the field anyway) for Mike Vick came to an abrupt close on Sunday when he threw a costly interception in the end zone to keep his Eagles from advancing. He got roughed up early and was missing DeSean Jackson for a stretch, but it wasn’t a horrible game for Vick. The Eagles just never ran the ball effectively. I know that’s Reid’s M.O., but sometimes you have to keep Vick fresh as the game goes on by handing it off early and often. Vick needs to be at his freshest late in games when the defense can’t keep up with him. If he’s being pummeled early he loses his effectiveness. Let that be a lesson.

(10-6) Green Bay Packers at
(10-6) Philadelphia EaglesThe Breakdown:

In a complete switch, I’m expecting and hoping for offensive fireworks from these squads today. These dynamic quarterbacks have no problem putting points on the board with their complete arsenal of targets. Rodgers may have the best group of 1-5 receivers in the NFL, but if they can even remotely put together a ground game they can keep Vick on the sidelines. Greg Jennings will draw Asante Samuel in coverage, but the way he’s been playing this year there’s no way Rodgers can avoid him. He’ll pick his spots, but Samuel can’t get fooled by the double move on even one play or it could be the difference.

That was a lot closer than anyone could have possibly expected. Back-up QB Matt Flynn had a chance in the fourth quarter to win it, but some awful game/clock/life management cost the Packers 20 seconds and any chance at getting it to the endzone. Speaking of QB’s who won’t be back next year, how great was it to watch Brett Favre slip into crapitude? Seeing the performance some of the players were giving on the field and the ensuing arguments on the sidelines was more than enough of a sign that things were about to change in Minnesota. Brett Favre’s awful play this year got Brad Childress fired. It’s that simple. If anyone was going to plunge the Vikings’ season into despair, it should have been the Packers. Thanks Aaron Rodgers. What a travishamockery. The Cowboy players deserve a hefty share of the blame, but poor Wade Philips got the bulk of it today when Jerry Jones fired him. I'd blame the offensive line that misses too many blocks and the defense that's been giving up points in bulk before I'd blame Philips. But it was going to happen eventually anyway, so what's the point in waiting? For Green Bay, gaining sole possession of first place in their division is huge going down the stretch.

Who saw a shut-out coming in this game? Okay, now who saw the shut-out being delivered by the Packer defense? Yeah, just like I thought. It was a costly loss for a Jets team that fell behind the Patriots in the division and who saw their offense fail to produce after featuring receiver Santonio Holmes. Rex Ryan should be nailing punter Steve Weatherford to the wall after he ran a fake punt at the line. They just looked off. With two fractures in his ankle, old man Favre could be on the bench for the next week or two. You can't tell me Tarvaris Jackson couldn't play up to the same crappy level. It's good to see Green Bay get a win over the Vikes and avoid the downward spiral, but they aren't playing up to their hype. Too many injuries and too much miscommunication last night between Rodgers and his receivers.

Some ye olden quarterback heads back to Lambeau Field this Sunday night, and he's bringing Randy Moss with him. Here are the highlights of week six in the NFL!

(3-2) Miami Dolphins 23
(3-3) Green Bay Packers 20

Another week, another Packers overtime loss. As good as their offense looked in the first and fourth quarters, the Pack struggled in the second and third periods, letting Miami build confidence. Aaron Rodgers doesn't seem to be playing at full speed yet, but when is it going to happen? The Green Bay defense gave up 150 yards on the ground, in part to their multiple injuries. Brandon Marshall is starting to become the focal point of the Miami offense, having finally gelled with QB Chad Henne. Ten catches for 127 yards proves it.

I'm sorry. Let's just get to my analysis.

(2-2) Miami Dolphins at
(3-2) Green Bay Packers

The Dolphins are reeling after a 2-0 start with tough losses to divisional opponents. They travel to Green Bay to take on an injury-riddled Packers squad who are ripe for an upset coming off a tough loss. Aaron Rodgers will make the start despite suffering a concussion last week, but he'll be without tight end Jermichael Finley for what will be the first of many games this season. Miami can't afford to fall behind any further in the standings and they get to visit Lambeau Field early on the season, as opposed to the tundra they might get later on.

(3-2) Washington Redskins 16
(3-2) Green Bay Packers 13

Not only do the Packers lose in overtime to the Skins, but the injuries are starting to pile up in a hurry. Top tight ends Jermichael Finley and Donald Lee both left the game with injuries as did defensive tackle Ryan Pickett. As hot as the Pack looked in the preseason, their play has dropped off significantly in the past few weeks. Aaron Rodgers suffered a concussion late, putting his status for next week in question. The 'Skins held this supposedly top offense to just 13 points, getting the much-needed win to stay even with the Giants and Eagles.

With the Giants and Eagles each in losable games today, the Redskins will be hard pressed to take advantage of the situation. Welcoming the heavy-hitting Packers into town, the Skins won't be able to keep up on the scoreboard. Their defense simply isn't good enough to cover all of Aaron Rodgers' many weapons. Even if they can't run the ball, the Packers aren't going to drop this one after almost losing to Detroit last week. Just won't happen. (Though it will probably happen now that I said that.)

I didn't put this game in because I think it's going to be dramatic. I listed it so if you wanted to relax and watch a no-mercy pounding, you'd know to tune in to this one. The Packers are going to be angry after their Monday night loss in Chicago and will look to take it out on the Lions. They won't commit another 18 penalties this week, that's for sure. Fantasy owners, Aaron Rodgers is your best friend this week against a severely lacking Lions secondary.

finally upon us! Here's my breakdown of tonight's meeting between the 2-0 Chicago Bears and the 2-0 Green Bay Packers.

(2-0) Green Bay Packers at
(2-0) Chicago Bears

With the best QB rating in the NFL through two weeks, Jay Cutler is handling the Mike Martz offense as well as could have been expected. Tonight that offense faces its toughest test in a Green Bay defense that features stand-outs at key positions. Starting up front, B.J. Raji will cause all sorts of trouble for center Olin Kreutz and guards Roberto Garza and Lance Louis. Defensive ends Cullen Jenkins and Ryan Pickett are coming off of injuries and won't be 100% if they can make it on the field tonight. With Chris Williams out with a hamstring injury, Frank Omiyale will again start at left tackle with Kevin Shaffer replacing him at right. Where line coach Mike Tice and the Bears are going to be preoccupied is with Clay Matthews, the stand-out second year linebacker that has racked up six sacks in the first two games of the season. Keeping him off of Cutler will be integral in the offense's success, but there may not be as much max protection as you'd expect. Martz may continue his gameplan from last week with more quick passes to the receivers and tight ends to take pressure of the offensive line and to keep the flurry of Dom Caper's blitzes away.

(1-0) Green Bay Packers 27

Could this have been a worse game for the Eagles? They lose fullback Leonard Weaver for the season, lost linebacker Stewart Bradlet and starting QB Kevin Kolb to concussions and have the faint beginnings of a quarterback controversy thanks to Michael Vick, who came in and wowed the crowd with his thought-lost running ability. Green Bay gets a tough win without playing near its best, which reminds them they're not in the Super Bowl yet. Rodgers will look much better as the season goes on.

If the Niners cruise to a win, the division race is probably already over. (Too soon?)

Green Bay Packers at
Philadelphia Eagles

Despite already being anointed the Super Bowl champs, the Packers can't afford to slip-up early against a young Eagles squad. Aaron Rodgers has to keep scoring touchdowns so his defense can focus against stopping the opponent's passing attack, Green Bay's only real weakness. Kevin Kolb will make plenty of mistakes.

2010 prediction: ???

Green Bay Packers

Well, that didn't take long. After only two full seasons under center, Aaron Rodgers has allowed Green Bay fans to completely move on from the legend that was Brett Favre. His ridiculous 30 touchdown and 7 interception season opened eyes around the NFL and have him creeping up to Manning/Brady/Brees levels. He's only missing the ring. As Green Bay is known for, they barely made any free agent signings in the offseason, preferring to build through the draft. Running back Ryan Grant is a perfect fit for this offense, racking up over 1200 yards in 2009. The Packers still boast the best wide-out corps in the NFL, with the veteran Donald Driver, the speedy Greg Jennings, James Jones and Jordy Nelson all ready to break it after the catch. Add in tight end Jermichael Finley (who is really just a big receiver) in his second year and there's no telling how many points the Packers can put up. Despite giving up way too many sacks on Rodgers early last season, the offensive line should prove much steadier in 2010. Mark Tauscher and Chad Clifton are good enough tackles, but first round pick Brian Bulaga could step in if they falter early.

By the time the game started, Arizona had nothing left to play for. Kurt Warner didn't go further than the first quarter, allowing Matt Leinart to get owned by a ball-hawking Packer defensive unit. The Packers played like the better team behind another Aaron Rodgers air show, but things will be much different in their rematch in the wildcard round. Still, I'm sure the confidence gained from pummeling their playoff opponent won't hurt Green Bay.

Since I don't believe he can do that for four quarters, the Ravens should win.

(10-5) Green Bay Packers at (10-5) Arizona Cardinals

After the Saints, the NFC playoff picture gets awfully muddled. The only team that can't jump up to the two seed is the Packers. Thanks to two losses to the Vikings this season they're locked into one of the two wild card spots. Arizona could get the other first round bye with losses from the Eagles and Vikings, but their defense must pressure Aaron Rodgers to slow down the Packers' dynamic pass offense. Most NFC scenarios include these two squads meeting in the wild-card round, so there could be some vanilla in the play-calling mix from Green Bay. Cardinals may have more to play for, but I like the Packers.

At this point, Mike Tomlin's Steelers are just looking to salvage their season and avoid falling further below .500. They'll get a tough challenge from the Packers, who are hoping to lock down a wildcard slot. Aaron Rodgers will likely tear apart a struggling Steelers secondary that will probably be without Troy Polamalu for another week. Big Ben will need more time in the pocket and a better running game to beat this far superior opponent.

Odder things have happened I guess.

(5-4) Green Bay Packers 17
(6-3) Dallas Cowboys 7

What a derailing of Dallas’ domination. (Hasn’t quite been domination, but I wanted the alliteration. Now I rhymed. Yikes.) Green Bay’s 3-4 defense confused the heck out of Tony Romo and the Dallas offense, who ironically see a 3-4 EVERY DAY in practice. For Green Bay, the only way to off-set all the sacks on Aaron Rodgers (besides protecting him) is to hit the snot out of the other QB.

A four-game winning streak will be on the line for tony Romo and the ‘Boys when they roll into Lambeau Field today. The Packers have lost two in a row and are in danger of an injury to Aaron Rodgers with the way Dallas rushes the QB. Green Bay desperately needs a successful running game to keep that defense off his back. Mike McCarthy is certainly feeling pressure to get his team back to the playoffs and dropping to 4-5 won’t do his job security any favors.

So Favre has swept the Packers and has looked calm doing it. Great, now we’ll never hear the end of it. Green Bay just couldn’t mount enough offense to dig out of a 21 point third-quarter hole. They tried valiantly, every time it got close Favre and the Vikings would smoothly march down the field and shut the door. Aaron Rodgers got beat up yet again, you have to feel sorry for the guy. Adrian Peterson failed to reach 100 rushing yards for the sixth time this season and the Vikings are STILL 7-1. That’s what they needed Favre for. Now we wait and see how the aged one holds up down the season’s home stretch. Next week’s bye should help. Gr.

I hear this is a big game. Really. If it weren’t for the World Series, this game would be on Sunday night. (And would force MLB to move their game if it did coincide. There’s no winning against the NFL.) Favre returns to Green Bay wearing a purple #4 jersey. What better drama can you get? (Unless they met again the playoffs… can you say premature Super Bowl?) After a Favre pick and interception were returned for touchdowns last week by the Steelers, I think Brad Childress will maintain a healthy dose of Adrian Peterson against a still-gelling Green bay defensive unit. (Yes GB held the Lions and Browns to three points total, but I’m not sold yet.)

Brett Favre won the Brett Favre Bowl. Surprised? I’m not. As hard as I was rooting for the Packers (and I was, it was so weird), it never seemed as if they could overcome Minnesota’s defense until it was too late. They even shut down Adrian Peterson, holding him to 55 yards on 25 carries. But Favre was efficient with the long ball and more importantly never turned the ball over. Aaron Rodgers had two turnovers, both of which led to touchdowns. (He also took a safety. Completely inexcusable in that situation.) Still, they’ll meet again. Next time it will be in Green Bay.

Can this hype get any bigger? Brett Favre’s former flame comes to town to face their old quarterback and his newfound Minnesotan lover. Aaron Rodgers should be just fine, Brett’ll hand off to Adrian Peterson quite a bit, but I wonder how Green Bay will play on defense? Daring Favre to beat you by stacking the line of scrimmage may work, but it might result in public backlash if Favre throws the Vikes to victory. Either way, I’m sitting down Monday night and rooting for Green Bay as hard as I can.

Jay Cutler threw four interceptions in Chicago’s 21-15 loss to the rival Green Bay Packers Sunday night.

To his credit, three of those interceptions came in the first half, and the Bears were still only down eight points. Ron Turner’s play-calling did nothing to stop the bleeding, as he completely abandoned Matt Forte and the running game in the first half. Maybe Turner didn’t realize that you should take the ball out of your QB’s hands when he’s throwing interceptions? You let him settle back down with some hand-offs and then ease him back into throwing. Cutler is not Tom Brady; he gets emotional and needs to be reigned in every now and again. Deal with it.

The score does not illustrate the domination the Texans had over the Green Bay Packers in this one. Houston turned the ball over not once, not twice, not even three times...but four! But they still won the game. That will not happen on most given Sundays. The Packers scored all of their 21 points off Houston turnovers. Matt Schaub returned from injury and played pretty well. He didn't let the frigid temps get to him as he kept his cool. Yahoo! Fantasy sports showed a graphic of Schaub that had the headline above it: "Cool Customer". Can't argue with that headline. The Texans were impressive in their dismauling of the Jaguars on Monday Night Football. Many will put the excuse of the Jags 'mailing it in' (which is probably true), but! A win is a win is a win and for Texans fans...that was nice for a change. The Texans will travel to frigid Lambeau Field to take on Aaron Rodgers and the Packers. Game time temp is suppose to be anywhere from 10-20 degrees. Being from Houston, let me tell you something....When it's 50 outside, I think "hey this is pretty chilly!". I cannot imagine what playing in 15 degree weather feels like. I know some Texans players have prior experience in playing in the cold, but some don't. I think the Texans will get dominated in this one. Packers are going to be playing like it's a nice sunny day while the Texans are like the icicles along the bottom of the roof, just waiting until it gets warmer to melt away. With that said, Green Bay, Green Bay, Green Bay......unfortunately for Texans fans.

Carolina Panthers (8-3) at Green Bay Packers (5-6)

The Panthers are in a tight race in the NFC South, tied with Tampa and barely ahead of Atlanta. With tough match-ups for all three teams, winning could propel one of them towards the South title. Carolina was assaulted by the Falcons last weekend, and need to rebound against a struggling Packers team. Green Bay was blown out on Monday night by the Saints, giving up 51 points and failing to defend against the big play. Losing to Carolina would severely cripple their chances of winning the mediocre NFC North at 5-7. Aaron Rodgers has played fairly well, but the Packer defense hasn’t backed him up.

As far as I know, the Chicago Bears were supposed to play a game on Sunday. Green Bay has faltered this season in spite of Aaron Rodgers’ tremendous play at quarterback. Their running game simply hasn’t produced like the Packer teams of previous years. The defense showed up against the Titans last Sunday, but there’s no telling what kind of performance they’ll deliver in any given game.

f the Browns’ offense performs to their potential, the AFC North is far from decided.

Green Bay Packers (4-3) at Tennessee Titans (7-0)

Pardon me for asking, but isn’t it just a little early to be rewarding Aaron Rodgers with a fairly hefty contract extension? With this new deal, Rodgers will stay in Packers green and yellow until 2014 and will be paid around $11 million a season. Call me crazy, but I prefer to see my quarterback finish one season before I lock up that kind of money. Rodgers has been impressive, no doubt, and he can justify his new money with a mistake-free performance against the unbeaten Titans. It won’t get any harder for the Packers this season, and since the Bears (with whom they share the division lead) face the pathetic Lions, Green Bay could easily fall from first.

rsquo;ll get into the playoffs, but it’s a solid base for the rest of Cable’s tenure.

Green Bay Packers 34, Indianapolis Colts 14

I certainly didn’t see this coming. After the trouncing they laid on the Ravens last week, I was convinced the Colts were back and ready to make a run. That’s why the NFL is so great. Indianapolis ran into the buzz saw that was the Packer defense, who forced Peyton Manning into completing only fifty percent of his passes and two interceptions. Indy also uncharacteristically racked up 12 penalties for 110 yards. For a Tony Dungy coached squad, that’s a surprising lack of discipline. Joseph Addai’s absence also was apparent, as back-up Dominic Rhodes only gained 73 yards on the ground, the entirety of Indy’s rushing attack. Reggie Wayne and Marvin Harrison only had four catches between them, which will almost always end in a Colts loss. At 3-3, the stumbling Colts have Tennessee next week, and their AFC South crown will be on the line.

While surfing the internet recently, I have come to a sad conclusion-the Apocalypse is UPON US! The number of morons in America is staggering. I wrote a column several weeks ago talkling about what would happen if a star quarterback like Tony Romo was injured during the season.   Although the comments I have recieved here have been insightful,I was lambasted by some on other message boards for claiming that he indeed was injured. I found it laughable that they could not understand that a question was being raised. (Article is found in September Archives) Romo wasn't hurt. We all knew that. Now he is -  as well as Tom Brady, Carson Palmer, and Brodie Croyle. My staments on its effects on a team have also come true. But I digress.

o give the offense enough possessions to match the Saints for points.

Indianapolis Colts (3-2) at Green Bay Packers (3-3)

These are the Indianapolis Colts we all know and love to watch. Peyton Manning and his receivers synced up in a beat-down of Baltimore in week six. Marvin Harrison re-discovered his youth, going deep twice for touchdowns while the defense picked off Joe Flacco three times. It might be even scarier this week, as Green Bay’s secondary is questionable with corner Al Harris still out, corner Charles Woodson playing on a bad toe, and safety Atari Bigby doubtful. Manning won’t have much choice either, as running back Joseph Addai isn’t likely to play with a sore hamstring that may or may not be torn. Dominic Rhodes will take the bulk of the carries against the Pack. Don’t blink in this one, or you might miss a Colts touchdown.

ike to see is a little bit more aggressive of a defensive secondary from the Vikings, much like the Green Bay Packers play.  Currently, the Vikings must be dropping back into many zone defenses, as how else can the opposition get THAT open?  Instead, I would much more respect man coverage on the outside, like Al Harris does so well.  Sure, you may get burned every once in awhile, but there WILL NOT be guys running around the field uncovered while the defender is only protecting a swathe of turf (as so often happens in zone coverage).  Perhaps we don't have the sort of players that make that type of system successful right now, but if we start making a change NOW we can actually change something, instead of the typical Chilly strategy of trying to do things his way at all costs with no respect to the opposition.  Just something to think about...

NFC East

Week 6

Hello East Fans,

Well after a week of Hiatus to curse the football gods for my team’s embarrassing losses. I felt a preview of the Best division in Football was the only way to quench the thirst. Every team in the division except for Washington is on the road, let’s start with the leaders of the pack.
