Washington Redskins

22 April 2010

It's finally here. The 2010 NFL Draft is upon us and I couldn't be more excited to hunker down for two nights and another day of coverage. With the new format, tonight will only cover the first round, bringing the drama of the top picks to primetime television.

down with the Cowboys has the NFC East title in the balance.

(10-5) Dallas Cowboys 17
(4-11) Washington Redskins

Speaking of the Cowboys, they beat up on the small child that is the Redskins organization and surprisingly still have a shot at the NFC number two seed if they get some help. Winning two in a row in December goes a long way in shaking thir history, but they still need to win at least one playoff game for Wade Philips to keep his job. Tony Romo is playing mistake-free at the QB position and is supported by a trio of talented running backs. Dallas is getting hot at the right time.

I love the Eagles over the offensively challenged Broncos.

(8-6) Dallas Cowboys at (4-10) Washington Redskins

In spite of all their "December woes" of years past, this Cowboys team has the inside track towards the playoffs. While not quite a powerhouse, Dallas has enough talent to be dangerous and Tony Romo is playing his best as of late. Conversely, the Redskins are a joke. After playing well but losing for most of the season, they packed it in last week against the Giants. This week, their high-priced defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth was sent home from practice for being late. Now he's voicing his displeasure with Greg Blache's defensive scheme because its not tailored toward his talents. While I may not like his public display, I agree with the $100 million dollar man. What's the point of signing a defensive force if your scheme doesn't play to his strengths. Oh well. The next coach won't have that problem. Cowboys over Indians.

cket and a better running game to beat this far superior opponent.

(7-6) New York Giants at (4-9) Washington Redskins

Change is a comin' in D.C., where Vinny Cerato was replaced by Bruce Allen amidst rumors negotiations have taken place with Mike Shanahan to be the 'Skins' next head coach. Perhaps Dan Snyder has finally learned what it takes to be successful in the NFL? For the Giants, a loss would drop them to 7-7 and out of the post-season race.

Let’s get some Opening Drive in your diet!

Washington Redskins (3-7) at Philadelphia Eagles (6-4)

I don’t even know why this is even on my list of games to watch this week. Oh wait, Jim Zorn’s job is on the line. (If he hasn’t lost it already.) If the ‘Skins get embarrassed by a division rival, Zorn is gone for sure. On the Philly sidelines, they still have a chance to catch the Cowboys for the NFC East crown, so expect Andy Reid to come out McNabb’s blazing. I don’t expect it will be close for long.

One of many.

(3-6) Washington Redskins 27
(6-3) Denver Broncos 17

How the mighty have fallen. After dominating teams in the second half earlier this year, Denver’s flipped the switch. Kyle Orton’s been pedestrian the past few weeks, and his ankle injury won’t help anything. (Much like last year.) Chris Simms did not look ready to take the reigns yet. On a positive note, it was a nice win for the ‘Skins, who need to rally this season to be credible again.

oss, the Cards have sole possession of first place.

(4-2) Philadelphia Eagles 27
(2-5) Washington Redskins 17

It wasn’t as close as the score would have you believe. The Redskins offense is inept at best even with a recently retired Sherm Lewis at the helm and Jason Campbell is getting close to being benched for Todd Collins just to get a spark into the offense. Sorry Jim Zorn. The Eagles get by the ‘Skins with a sloppy win, but a win nonetheless. Donovan McNabb wasn’t at his best, but it was good enough to take advantage of multiple Redskin turnovers. They need to clean up their offense if they want to make a playoff run.

My fake money’s on the Giants.

(3-2) Philadelphia Eagles at (2-4) Washington Redskins

GM Vinny Cerrato has come out and said Jim Zorn won’t be fired during this season. However, Sherm Lewis will be calling his first plays since 2004 on Monday Night Football in a division match-up. That doesn’t give me much hope for this game or any other game this season. Philly needs to roll over the ‘Skins to get the taste of their Oakland loss out of their mouths.

ng in New York… at least not for Giants fans.

(1-5) Kansas City Chiefs 14
(2-4) Washington Redskins

HAHAHAHA. Oh Jim Zorn, you’re SO fired. For the third time this season, the Redskins give a winless team their first victory. The fact that Daniel Snyder brought in an offensive consultant in Sherm Lewis (who was calling Bingo at a senior center two weeks ago, no lie) who is now going to be calling the offensive plays means Zorn is all but out as head coach.

urgh should lay the wood to these streaking Browns.

(0-5) Kansas City Chiefs at (2-3) Washington Redskins

In the wacky world of the Redskins, things aren’t going exactly as owner Daniel Snyder planned. They’ve beaten the Bucs and Rams but lost to the lowly Lions and the pathetic Panthers. Now they get the Kansas City Chiefs, who are winless just as those teams were. If the ‘Skins can’t turn things around expect a clean sweep of the coaching staff at the end of the season.

Take THAT Jim Zorn! Oh man, it is SO sweet to watch Dan Snyder’s Redskins give teams their first win. I can’t imagine Zorn or Jason Campbell’s jobs are safe for long. A do-over in DC is coming this offseason. Welcome out of the loser’s club Carolina.

eeds to be healthy for Tom Brady to have success in this one.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (0-3) at Washington Redskins (1-2)

You’re obviously wondering why I would even mention this game. It’s simple, there’s drama. Tampa Bay benched QB Byron Leftwich after their offense failed to put up points, switching to second-year Josh Johnson. For the Redskins, this is a game they could once mark down as an easy win, but not anymore. If they lose a second straight contest to a supposedly inferior foe, heads could roll in DC.

Let’s start the Final Drive of week 3!

(1-2) Detroit Lions 19 (1-2) Washington Redskins 14

Let’s get started with this week’s Opening Drive!

Washington Redskins (1-1) at Detroit Lions (0-2)

I’m rooting for the Lions to avoid the longest regular season losing streak in league history (20 games). Why? So I can see the chaos that will undoubtedly ensue in Washington when the ‘Skins fall. Jim Zorn is already under pressure for his inept offense that barely put away the Rams last week.

our 200r third-ranked offense should be able to put up more than a touchdown.

New York Giants 23, Washington Redskins 17

Just as in Dallas, sharing the wealth might replace some of the production lost from losing their best receiver. If the G-men’s running game can pound their opponents every week, the receivers won’t have as much pressure on them. Losing rookie Hakeem Nicks for a few weeks won’t do Manning any favors though. Oh, Osi Umenyiora is back and angry too.

Nine wins for the Texans is a long shot.

Washington Redskins at New York Giants

Week one and we’re already getting an NFC East division match-up. What could be better? After the ‘Skins attempted to bring in every other QB possible, Jason Campbell needs to prove he belongs at the starting position in Washington. A win over the Giants in week one will certainly help his cause. Clinton Portis should have another solid year, but the real story will be on defense. Signing DT Albert Haynesworth and CB DeAngelo Hall in the first few hours of free agency, owner Dan Synder returned to his “buying a Super Bowl” philosophy. If their defense isn’t much improved with those additions, Washington could be the bottom-feeder in the NFC East.

2 April 2009

When the rumors surfaced that the Washington Redskins were getting involved when they have a solid talent at QB in Jason Campbell, I just assumed they’d win out. Jerry Angelo could never outbid Dan Snyder… could he? This deal proves that new Denver head coach Josh McDaniels liked Orton better than Campbell, which is a shock to me. McDaniels, the former quarterbacks coach for the New England Patriots, places a lot of stock in system quarterbacks, which Orton obviously is, judging from his days at Purdue.

f he can establish himself against Atlanta’s defensive unit.

Philadelphia Eagles (8-5-1) at Washington Redskins (7-7)

While the Eagles are flying high and hoping for a trip to the postseason, the Redskins are down in the dumps after giving the Bengals their second win of the season. The ‘Skins are ripe for the pickin’, but nobody backs Zorn into a corner. (Did that joke even land?) McNabb may be auditioning for the rest of the NFL in these last few games, since there’s a strong possibility he will ask to be traded or released at season’s end after everything that’s happened. They’re still a long shot, but Eagles fans may have something to cheer for yet.

(Unless you turn it over five times as well, but you get my drift.)

Baltimore Ravens 24, Washington Redskins 10

I’d stop throwing the football anywhere near Ravens safety Ed Reed. With his two interceptions of Jason Campbell Sunday night he may have single-handedly kicked the ‘Skins out of the playoffs while propelling his own team into January. Clinton Portis was on the sidelines for most of the second half, and has since lashed out at head coach Jim Zorn’s decision. The Ravens defense put the All-Pro back on lockdown and forced three turnovers from the normally protective Washington offense. Zorn’s Redskins may end up on the bottom of the NFC East after all. Baltimore is set up perfectly for a post-season berth and will be a dangerous opponent for whoever is unfortunate enough to face them.

Another week is in the books in the National Football League as we head to Week 15. But first let's take a look back at the week that was...Week 14! (my tongue is getting twisted) Several surprising outcomes this past Sunday including a few of the games I picked. I went a disappointing 1-3 in my picks. Very poor performance on my part. I'm finally realizing I'll never have a grip on the NFL. It's the most inconsistent professional sport out there. Any team can lose on any given week. But enough sulking, let's get on to this week's Fallout Report!

ve something to say when the season ends.

Winners - Dallas Cowboys

4) Washington Redskins @ Baltimore Ravens

The 7-5 Washington Redskins will take on the 8-4 Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore in this Sunday Night match-up. This is a big game for both teams. The Redskins' playoff hopes will take a big hit with another loss and the Ravens are still hunting for a AFC playoff bid and with a Pittsburgh loss, the two teams will be virtually tied in the AFC North. So big stakes on the table in this one. The Ravens have played better at home than on the road this season. Washington...eh. This is a team that started out red-hot, but has cooled down as of late. I'll go with my gut and pick Baltimore in this one at home. Joe Flacco and company have played well this season.

rsquo;ll need to start looking at ways to improve that defense… again.

New York Giants 23, Washington Redskins 7

If you haven’t believed my hype regarding the Giants, you should now. Sans Plaxico Burress, Eli Manning put up almost 300 passing yards against a physical Redskin secondary. That’s a great sign for Tom Coughlin’s group, who will now be without Burress for the rest of the season. Defensive end Justin Tuck added two more sacks to his season total, providing star talent on what was supposed to be an under-manned defensive line. The ‘Skins are still in the playoff hunt, but with an ailing Clinton Portis and a closing schedule that includes the Ravens and Eagles (albeit mixed with the Bengals and 49ers); they’ll need some help to make it into January.

Expect to see them come January.

New York Giants (10-1) at Washington Redskins (7-4)

The Giants are without question the best team in the NFL. They’re on a six-game win streak coming into this weekend’s NFC East divisional match-up. Brandon Jacobs is listed as questionable and embattled receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg on Friday, putting himself out of action for at least two weeks. Still, they have a great opportunity to close the door on the NFC East with a win. At 7-4, Jim Zorn’s Redskins are a pleasant surprise, as is Zorn’s rapid success as a head coach. Clinton Portis’s status is up in the air for a second straight week, and if he can’t make a go of it the Redskins will be beaten before the game even starts.

Yesterday, the Cowboys defeated the San Francisco 49ers, at Texas Stadium, by a score of 35-22.  Don’t let the score fool you, the ‘Boys were in cruise control mid-way through the 2nd quarter.  The Cowboys defense started off a little shaky, but they were able to limit the 49ers to field goals.  After the 1st quarter, the boys trailed 6-0, but that’s when it happened…the game changed in an instant!

19 November 2008

Just this past Sunday (November 16th), something occurred in the NFL during a post-game news conference that has left me dumbfounded.  The Eagles and Bengals played to a 13-13 tie.  Usually that would be news in of itself, since ties are very rare in the NFL.  In fact, the last tie came in 2002.  The last time an Eagles game ended in a tie was, coincidentally, on November 16, 1997 against the Baltimore Ravens.  But what’s got my panties all up in a bunch is what Donovan McNabb had to say after the game.

The acquisition of Jerry Porter obviously didn’t help.

Dallas Cowboys 14, Washington Redskins 10

Ugh. I’ll have to continue discussing the Dallas Cowboys and their playoff hopes for another week. Defeating the Redskins in Washington has propelled them to second place in the NFC East, since the Eagles could only tie the Bengals (That’s right McNabb, ties DO exist). Tony Romo brought a spark to this sluggish offense in spite of his two interceptions, and Marion Barber proved yet again that he is the most punishing running back in football. He’s extremely fun to watch if he’s not pounding on your team.

The crystal ball bit off a little more than it could chew this past week.  After all was said and done, the crystal ball was 1-2-1.  That puts me at 17-18-1 for the season, a little under .500 (approx.  .486)…not very good!  I went out on a limb with two major upsets, and I got burned…not to mention the debacle (by Philadelphia) in Cincinnati.  What’s done is done…so let’s move on; but first, let’s see what went wrong.

bsp; The Cowboys got a much-needed victory, on the road, against a formidable football team in the Washington Redskins.  The ‘Boys are now 6-4, and they are in the hunt for a wild-card berth.  For the Cowboys to win the division, it would take a miracle, as the G-Men won, once again, and they are now 9-1.  Did the Cowboys turn the corner?  Are they the same team that started 3-0?  Are they the Super Bowl favorites, once again?  Hardly!  But, they are definitely…back in the saddle!

4) Dallas Cowboys @ Washington Redskins

Tony Romo makes his comeback on Sunday night as the Cowboy nation hopes Dallas can play like they did before Week 4 and all of last regular-season. This game is huge for the Cowboys. They need to win this game. I think they will. A loss would be crippling especially to a division opponent and especially to rivals Washington. The Cowboys haven't forgotten about the Redskins going into Dallas in Week 4 and literally sucking the time out of the clock in the 4th to deal Dallas their first loss of the season, no. I'm not a Cowboys fan, but coming off a bye, I can't see the Cowboys losing this one. I'll go with the Cowboys.

Tomlin needs to reign in Big Ben.

Dallas Cowboys (5-4) at Washington Redskins (6-3)

Dallas fans should be cautiously optimistic this week, for Tony Romo is returning to the starting line-up. However, he’s not 100% yet, and with offensive line troubles could be risking further injury. Dallas is also hoping Felix Jones returns to the backfield, which would allow Marion Barber to stay fresh for December. Dallas isn’t out of the playoff picture yet, but a loss to the ‘Skins would surely shove them out of frame.

Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2) at Washington Redskins (6-2)

This is one brutal schedule for the Steelers. One week after losing to the New York Giants in a heartbreaker, they stay in the NFC East to meet the ball-controlling Redskins. Ben Roethlisberger is prime for an injury with all the giant hits he takes in the pocket. The Steelers need to focus their game plan on running the ball and protecting their franchise QB in which they have invested so much time and money. MID-SEASON NFL AWARDS & RECOGNITION

MOST OVER-PUBLICIZED
5. Jeremy Shockey (NO)—When he was acquired in the off-season from the Giants, many lauded the move. On paper, it truly seemed like a “win-win” scenario for both teams. One expert even went so far as to say that the outspoken tight end would have the same type of impact on the Saints as Randy Moss had on the Patriots in 2007 (sorry, Mr. Jaworski). Thus far, having played in 5 of 8 games, Shockey has 200 receiving yards, zero touchdowns, and two lost fumbles. Recently, he lashed out at his new organization for rushing him back on the playing field after he suffered a sports hernia earlier in the season. Even with crucial injuries at skill positions, the 4-4 Saints have had little trouble moving the ball on offense. If Shockey doesn’t score a touchdown shut up soon, he might find out the hard way just how expendable he actually is.

The Cowboys are sitting at 4-3, having lost three out of their last four games after a 3-0 start.  This is not how Jerry Jones had envisioned this season unfolding.  The Cowboys had 13 Pro-Bowlers last year.  They had 22 of 24 starters returning (Marion Barber replaced Julius Jones and Zach Thomas replaced Akin Ayodele).  Jerry had good reason for optimism.  The Cowboys had a decent draft by selecting Felix Jones and bolstering their cornerback depth. They also acquired Adam Jones on a draft day trade.  The Cowboys were 13-3 last year; a Super Bowl would surely be in their grasp this year?

Each week, on Friday, I will look into my (never wrong, just misinformed) crystal ball and give my predictions for that weekend games.  I will always prognosticate on the Eagles and Cowboys games and then pick two more games of interest (to me, that is, not necessarily to you).  Keep in mind, that this is for entertainment purposes only, and that I do not endorse any sort of legal or illegal gambling.  That being said…let’s see what’s in my crystal ball!

When Bill Parcells resigned as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones did an extensive search to find his replacement.  It was believed, at the time, that Norv Turner was the front-runner.  The new head coach was going to inherit Jason Garrett, as Mr. Jones had already hired Garrett as the OC.  In the end, Jones decided on Wade Phillips.  The reasoning was that the Cowboys defense needed a proven “3-4 guy” to take what Parcells started to the next level.

The crystal ball was one up and three down for the week.  That puts me 6 games under .500 for the season…not good…more like awful!  The crystal ball was told it was going to be on a short leash…now it’s getting the hook.  Hey…if head coaches can be fired in mid-season…well…so can the crystal ball!  I will have a new crystal ball for next week…we’ll see if it can do a better job prognosticating than its predecessor?  Let’s take a look back and see what happened this past week:

Yesterday the Cowboys went to St. Louis and decided to play their worst game of the year.  What had already been a tumultuous week for the Cowboys only got worse by the humiliation the Rams put on the ‘Boys.  Everyone (okay, maybe not everyone) is calling for Wade Phillips to be fired!  That’s not going to happen…not this week…not next week, not during the bye week!  There is too much at stake to do that!

It’s the only option for a team fighting to lead their division.

Cleveland Browns (2-3) at Washington Redskins (4-2)

Each team is coming off strange outcomes in their last games, which were thought to be locks. Cleveland handed it to the Giants, while Washington laid an egg versus St. Louis. The Browns put themselves back in position to make a run at the AFC North since Pittsburgh took their bye in week six. On offense, Braylon Edwards racked up yardage off of crisp Derek Anderson passes. The real surprise was the Cleveland defense, as they snagged three interceptions off of Eli Manning. They’ll need the same focus to stop Jason Campbell and the ‘Skins.

NFC East

Week 7 preview

Hello East fans,

As we head into the critical part of the season, the East sets up for a huge weekend of football. Last week’s slip up by every team except Philly made the race a lot tighter. We do not know if Mr. Jessica Simpson will play this Sunday after speaking with Brett over the week. Eli seems to have a injury similar to SuperFive’s and the Skins are wondering if they really lost to the Rams or not.

You can read the experts picks, but I get my in formation in prettier packages. east win in this spot.

Winners - Houston Texans

4) Cleveland Browns @ Washington Redskins

Since the crytal ball is indeed suspended, there will be no "Upset Special" this week. I guess you can call my pick for the Ravens winning an upset since Miami is favored....but no major upset pick like my crystal ball tries to pick each week. Why? Because I'm better then that. I don't...

A few minutes before the NFL trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon, Jerry Jones pulled off a blockbuster deal for WR Roy Williams of the Detroit Lions.  Yes, I said “blockbuster”!  Keep in mind that trades are very rare in the NFL…especially at the trade deadline!  The Cowboys gave Detroit a 1st, a 3rd, and a 6th round draft choice.  In return the Cowboys received Roy Williams and Detroit’s 7th rounder.  Did Jerry overpay?  Did Jerry panic?  That would be NO and NO!

The Washington Redskins signed former MVP Shaun Alexander.  I can’t believe it took this long for Alexander to latch on to a team.  I know he has lost a step, but some of the RBs that are playing never had the step to lose!

Louis Rams 19, Washington Redskins 17

This is why they play the games. After four straight wins, with the last two coming against Dallas and Philadelphia, Jim Zorns’s Redskins were looking past the winless Rams. With interim head coach Jim Haslett at the helm and Marc Bulger reinserted at quarterback, the Rams caught the ‘Skins snoozing. The Redskins outgained the Rams in total yards 368 to 200, but still found ways to lose. After not having an offensive turnover all season, the Redskins caught up a bit, fumbling three times. The Rams took advantage with a last second field goal to win it, adding to the list of shocking developments in week six. It was a solid win for St. Louis, and gives them something to build on in the coming weeks. The bright spot for Washington was the play of Clinton Portis, who rushed for 129 yards and two touchdowns on the day. Former MVP Shaun Alexander signed a one-year deal with Washington yesterday. After losing Ladell Betts to a sprained knee, the signing will add a needed layer of depth behind Clinton Portis, who should be saved for an eventual push for the playoffs.

Yesterday, the Cowboys went to the University of Phoenix Stadium to take on the Cardinals.  The ‘Boys got lassoed by the Cards 30-24 in over-time.  It was a great finish to a rather lackluster game.  Sure Romo had 321 yards passing; Barber had 178 total yards from scrimmage, and even Patrick Crayton got in on the action with a 55-yard TD catch.  Owens had a humble 4 receptions for 36 yards and Witten contributed 4 catches for 55 yards.  But until the last 3 minutes and 17 seconds it was a boring game…but that’s why they play the full 60 minutes!

like they did last year, or it’ll be another season of disappointment for Charger faithful.

Washington Redskins 23, Philadelphia Eagles 17

After week one of the NFL season, everyone had already condemned Jim Zorn to a 6-10 record. Now people are racing to justify calling them the best team in the NFL. (Sorry ‘Skins, but that distinction still belongs to the Giants.) Four straight wins against quality opponents is a good reason for the excitement in Washington, and as a plus they’ll play their remaining division games at home. Jason Campbell and the offense still haven’t turned the ball over, and Clinton Portis is pummeling opposing defenses. Philadelphia has had no such luck, dropping three straight. Granted, they’ve played against good teams, but a playoff caliber squad has to find a way to win. With Brian Westbrook’s status in question with broken ribs, Philly’s rushing game may not get back on track anytime soon. Donovan McNabb may have to shift into an even higher gear if his Eagles are to play in January.

as Cowboys

How bout em Cowboys?! Well they didn't look too hot last week against the Washington Redskins. Very surprised at the outcome of that game, but the Redskins are playing good ball. The NFC East is the best Division in the NFL at the moment by far. The Division as a whole is 11-4. Not bad if I say so myself. Anyways back to the game. The Cowboys lose last week and look ahead to this week as the Cincinnati Bengals come to Big D aiming for their 1st victory. Bengals are bad. 0-4 is bad. Yes they came close to beating the defending Super Bowl Champions, but they didn't. "Good teams win the close games" as they say and the Bengals...well Bengals aren't good. 31st in Offense, 29th in Passing, 30th in Rushing, and a sort of decent 19th in defense. Decent for what the Bengals are known for on defense anyways in the past. Looking at both teams stats will tell this game alone. But throw the stats out the window for this one. I don't see the Cowboys losing back-to-back in Dallas to any team. I'm not predicting a blow out (which it could), I'm just predicting a Dallas win here. Chalk it up.

t as it is, and a couple of undefeated teams trying to stay on track against solid opponents

Washington Redskins (3-1) at Philadelphia Eagles (2-2)

This game is crucial for the stumbling Eagles. Three playoff teams are going to come out the NFC East and the Giants and Cowboys are almost a lock. It’ll be up to Philadelphia and Washington to fight it out in these divisional contests to see who will take that second wildcard slot come January. Donovan McNabb and crew are coming off a tough loss at Chicago, but should be getting back tight end L.J. Smith off the injury list. Brian Westbrook is still a game-time decision so Correll Buckhalter may have to continue picking up the slack on the ground. Washington should be feeling great after they beat Dallas in Texas last Sunday. Jason Campbell is finding deep threat Santana Moss with increasing regularity, which can only help out Clinton Portis and the running game. Coach Jim Zorn must keep his team on target if they want to rise to 2-1 against their division.

Last Sunday’s contest between the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins made for great drama as well as great confusion. Dallas is no longer the best team in that division, with the champs in New York sitting at 3-0. Even further, they might not even be the second best team, as Washington made a statement by handing Dallas its first loss by a score of 26-24.

The Crying Game

The Terrell Owens story

Hello NFL fans,

Well here we are, week four of the third year with his last team. This will be his last team, I truly believe that. If I were an owner I would rather get a letter full of anthrax and then imprisoned IN Cuba to spend the rest of my days. The continuous onslaught of reporters and fans condemning my name and wanting my head on a stick would be too much for me to bare.

Week 4

Hello East fans,

Since there was only on division game this week the world was focused in Dallas.

The G-men were off this week and off out scowering jail cells for their great wide receiver. I am sure they will have enough time to bail him out since he ahs been suspended for a game for missing a team meeting. The Skins were in town to try and upset the undefeated Cowgals.

Arizona Cardinals (2-0) at Washington Redskins (1-1)

Shockingly, Arizona is undefeated and sits atop their division. While Seattle is 0-2, the Cardinals have to continue to pad their lead so they can finally win the division like everyone has been predicting them to do for three off-seasons. The Redskins offense came alive last week against a shaky Saints defense. Jason Campbell needs to progress in this new offensive system and rookie Jim Zorn needs to progress as a head coach in this league

y thought they were!

In a very strange game, the New york Giants defeated the Washington Redskins with a hypocrital effort as they continued to show the inconsistency that has plagued them for years. For those who see the glass half full, remember that it was the last third of last season in which they could do no wrong-dominating defensively and operating the offense with care and efficiency. During the playoffs the enigma that is Eli Manning, who threw interceptions more often that a Tour de France cyclist takes enhancers, caught fire during that late stretch and lead the Giants to a historic ending. Well, here we go again.

What better way to start my life as a sports blogger than this. It is my opening post, yet more importantly to the sports fan it is Pro Football Eve!!! That's right.  Football is back and the 5 month holiday is "The Most wonderful Time of the Year", but only some of us will get presents. Santa Coughlin may be in the giving mood again. It is more likely however,  that Giselle will lead the Patriot fans in a Marilyn Monroe inspired "Santa Bra-dy", asking for that "one thing, a ring".

Thank you, Derrick Harvey, for gracing Jacksonville with your presence, even if your uneventful debut precluded your first practice.

All three QBs tossed a touchdown pass and the defense was stellar as the Jacksonville Jaguars completed a 3-1 preseason--most importantly with no significant injuries--with Thursday night's 24-3 win over the struggling Redskins. The win was Jacksonville's first dominating one as they outgained the 'Skins 339-176, more than doubled them in first downs, converted ten of seventeen third downs, and held the ball thirteen minutes longer than Washington.

9 March 2008

The Bears gave Brandon Lloyd a one-year contract last week, reeling in a cast-off from the Redskins who’s been plagued by injuries and questionable locker room chemistry the past two seasons. Lloyd’s production will be a complete gamble, but there are some good reasons to like this deal. First off, he’s coming incredibly cheap, dime-store, like we just snatched him up off the shelf at that seedy bodega down the street. There’s basically nothing to lose, am I wrong? Anybody is an upgrade at this point. I remember a time when Lloyd impressed me mildly – two 40+ catch seasons in San Fran, great hands, good burst off the line, strong vertical leap, mediocre blocking, a propensity for SportsCenter Top-10 one-handed catches. When I read about him being traded to Washington, I pictured him working the middle of the field, Santana Moss putting some double-moves on the outside and burning the safety with an inside post pattern, Antwaan Randle El drawing up in a hitch – the near-mechanized cogs of Al Saunders’ vaunted offense in perfect syncronization. Well, we all know how that turned out (Did he really think every one of those players could digest a 700-page playbook? Didn’t he check their Wonderlic scores?).
